The Principal R&D Process Engineer - Battery is an experienced individual contributor responsible for advancing battery technology from research and development through transfer and sustainment in manufacturing. This role leads the innovation and development of battery manufacturing processes and equipment, with a strong emphasis on dry electrode manufacturing, ensuring manufacturable designs, robust yield, and compliance with applicable regulations.
This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) operating unit. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

A Day in Life:
In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Principal R&D Process Engineer - Battery role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots, and provides technical leadership during battery research, product development, and process development.
- Designs studies to investigate specific technical questions within area of expertise; may support development verification activities where applicable.
- Leads innovation, development, and optimization of new battery manufacturing concepts, processes, and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations, including feasibility/scouting, material selection, process selection, and equipment selection/installation.
- Translates research outcomes into usable, manufacturable products/processes, supporting transfer into manufacturing operations, that meet quality standards with capable processes to optimize production efficiencies and yields.
- Recommends and implements process and equipment modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiency, manufacturing techniques, and yield.
- Integrates equipment + materials capabilities to meet target process/module and technology specifications.
- Reviews development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.
- Partners with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., development and operations) to ensure product designs and processes are compatible and can be reliably manufactured.
- Develops and/or applies statistical analysis experienced in DoE and model development and optimization; develops processes suitable for statistical process control, including measurement systems.
- Ensures processes and procedures remain compliant with applicable regulations.
The successful candidate will have:
- Direct hands-on experience with dry electrode manufacturing (development, scale-up, or production support).
- Battery manufacturing industry experience (process development and sustaining support in a manufacturing environment).
