ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
• Operate gas fired furnaces to heat metal for Rolling following specific established methods per Mill Instructions and Operating Procedures.
• Direct, locate & assist in loading of metal into furnaces in compliance with specifications.
• Work with schedules, tables, charts and specific technical instructions to avoid any deviations in process.
• Interpret all gauges and measuring instrument functions and controls to assure temperature conforms to requirements.
• Operate optical pyrometer to verify furnace temperature and record finish temperatures as specified by Mill Instructions.
• Ability to record all necessary information per instructions on Rolling Mill log for tractability in heat files.
• Maintain a visual alertness to reduce defect level and variations in standard process to improve first pass yield.
• Perform associated inspections and checks.
• Work material through designated rolls following a prescribed pass sequence to obtain a specific cross section.
• Assist in roll changes, set guides, guide boxes and plates following standard procedures.
• Discharge material from furnace to rolling mill to maintain a standard production rate as directed by Roller/Finisher. (Must make absolutely sure that all material loaded in furnace is removed prior to reloading to prevent allow mix.)
• Operate any auxiliary equipment as directed.

 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to maintain IME certification by fulfilling all requirements.
• Must have ability to be trained for advancement.
• Maintain all necessary records to comply with specific technical instructions.
