POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Coordinates project activities, including contracts for services. Some positions manage rental properties. Provides information to neighborhood associations regarding City policies, processes, and procedures as it relates to neighborhood association organization, developing tools and methods for communicating with their members, establishing programs designed to improve neighborhood quality of life, and responding to inquiries through NOVA and other City customer intake systems.

Position Specific Summary

The Special Projects Coordinator position with the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department is responsible for coordinating and facilitating programs and engagement actives to effectively implement and carry out ongoing delivery services. 

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the HCD Director. This position exercises supervision over housing and development personnel   

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates special projects or programs; creates timelines, sets goals, ensures tasks are completed on schedule, and coordinates with different departments to ensure successful execution. Coordinates workshops and resources to help train and educate. Conducts thorough research on housing trends, policies, and best practices at local, state, and national levels. Analyzes demographic, economic, and housing market data to identify gaps in housing availability. Develops evidence-based policy recommendations to enhance housing options within the city.
     

  • Organizes and prepares materials for meetings, public hearings, and other departmental events. Records minutes during meetings and ensure the timely distribution of action items Collaborates with Director, planners, and other stakeholders to advocate for policy changes that support affordable housing development. Prepares reports, presentations, and briefs for internal use and public dissemination. Assists in the development and refinement of housing initiatives, ensuring alignment with city goals.  Drafts correspondence, memos, and other documents as needed. 
     

  • Designs and implements strategies to integrate equity and inclusion into all housing programs and initiatives. Works closely with diverse community stakeholders to identify barriers to equitable housing access and develop solutions to share with appropriate stakeholders. Builds partnerships with local organizations, advocacy groups, and residents to foster a collaborative approach to addressing housing challenges. 
     

  • Reviews and follows up on departmental equity and inclusion initiatives focused on increasing employee competencies and engagement as they relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace. Prepares detailed reports on program outcomes and suggest improvements based on feedback and data analysis.  
     

  • Supervises staff, provides guidance, training, and performance evaluations. Ensures tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule. Participates in the recruitment process, including interviewing and selecting candidates. Reviews time-off request and balances workloads among team members.
     

  • Assists with high-level administrative support to the Director, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating travel arrangements.
     

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
