Secondary Fire Instructor (Hourly)

Job Description Summary:

To assist Adjunct Faculty in the instruction of 30 cadets per semester. Provides instruction to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) standard certification level for Firefighter I/II, HazMat Awareness/Operations.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

  • Prepares the classroom for instruction using ladders, hoses, fire apparatus, appliances, hand and power tools.
  • Provides information on topics such as Fire Science, Communication, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Ropes & Knots, Forcible Entry, Salvage and Overhaul, Fire Service Ladders, Ventilation, Fire Service Hose and Appliances, Basic Wildland Firefighting, Fire Service Water Supply, Fire Protection Systems and Inspection, Fire Streams, Rescue Operations, Vehicle Extrication, Technical Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Building Construction, Fire Cause/Determination, Live Fire, and Hazardous Materials.

Required Education

  • As required.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a variety of settings.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

Safety

  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
