About the role

JOB SUMMARY 

Marriott International is searching for a Senior Director, Smart Building Technology to report into the Vice President, of Technology Portfolio Management.  Marriott’s Headquarters, located just outside of Washington DC in downtown Bethesda, Maryland, features the latest in smart building technologies to service our associates and visitors. This leader will manage Marriott’s smart building strategy and portfolio of products enabled through the Marriott International Headquarters (HQ) mobile application and the Smart Building IoT platform, integrating over 30 internal and third-party capabilities and services to enable a unified associate and visitor experience. These capabilities span HQ building access management, workspace management, room reservations management, food & beverage ordering, visitor management, in-building navigation, facilities ticketing, associate communications, and analytics/reporting. 

This leader manages an agile product team that provides cross-channel digital experiences via our HQ mobile application, internal websites, and lobby kiosks, supported with observability tools and analytics for our facility managers.

A strong candidate for this role has demonstrated experience in product management, software development, operations management, customer support, content management, vendor selection and management, and budget management.  Experience with mobile app development (iOS and Android) using React Native, smart screens (Android, Chrome OS), and web development and a strong understanding of NFC, Zigbee, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi-enabled hardware and applications is preferred.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience 

  • College degree in Marketing, eCommerce, or related field or equivalent experience and certification; MBA or advanced degree preferred 
  • 10+ years in digital product development and management, with experience in agile/scrum or incremental development practices
  • Excellent communicator, both written and spoken. Must be able to explain product vision, business objective, technical feasibility, define requirements, and technical implementations.
  • Strong understanding of web and app development and operating systems and their native capabilities
  • Experience in developing product/feature roadmaps and release planning 
  • Experience in onboarding and managing third-party service providers within service level agreements
  • Strong project management skills and experience in leading cross functional teams (15+) 
  • Technical understanding of content management systems, data call flows, data layers, security, caching, APIs, microservices, SDKs, data networks and data bases (cloud). 
  • Experience in managing budgets over $3 Million. Has the ability to estimate workload, appropriately distribute funds and manage spending. 
  • Engineering or computer science backgrounds strongly recommended 

 

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES 

  • Maintain the Smart Building product roadmap based upon customer needs, market trends, and evolving technology capabilities
  • Gather and detail product requirements from stakeholders across the organization to inform roadmap items; evaluate technical complexity of requirements to appropriately prioritize and manage delivery 
  • Establish system specifications
  • Design and build products with agile development teams
  • Manage the integration and maintenance of third-party capabilities and services 
  • Build features modularly for ease of replacement and expansion to other experiences
  • Implement a support model that continually identifies, resolves, and prevents operational and service management issues through incident and problem management
  • Ensure product features are designed/demonstrated with stakeholders and tested prior to deployment to maintain a high quality of service and reliability
  • Manage the release software updates with the appropriate change management and communication to promote adoption and ease of use 
  • Develop and leverage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enable data-driven decisions
  • Prepare analytics, reports, and presentations tailored to the respective internal or external audience
