About the role

The Director of the Disability and Learning Resource Center (DLRC) provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and visionary direction for all aspects of the DLRC’s operations, programs, and services. This critical role ensures equal access and inclusive support for students with disabilities, fostering a campus environment that upholds the principles of accessibility, compliance, and educational success. The Director understands and is well-versed in national trends, ADA compliance and regulations, and broad school issues as they pertain to student accessibility. The Director stays current on best practices in disability services in higher education and maintains membership along with the DLRC in the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) national organization. The position is optional, hybrid, 4 days in person/1 day remote during the academic year. 3 days in person/2 days remote in between semesters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

● Provide overall leadership and management for the DLRC, including strategic planning, program development, service delivery, education/training efforts, consultation and staff supervision.

● Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of accommodation processes and disability support services.

● Serve on the Wellness Center Leadership Team and function as the institution’s primary consultant on student disability-related matters, including compliance with the ADA, Section 504, and Universal Design principles.

● Supervises DLRC staff and oversees efforts to deliver reasonable accommodations - which includes evaluation of students’ documentation, determining accommodation eligibility, providing direct support to students, and advocating when necessary - for students with disabilities.

● Deliver direct services including intake, assessment, case management, and ongoing support for students with a wide range of disabilities, including physical, sensory, psychological, and learning disabilities.

● Provides consultation, education, and recommendations to campus constituencies on student-related issues pertaining to the ADA, Section 504 and Universal Design.

● Maintain effective case management systems using Accessible Information Management (AIM) software, ensuring secure and organized recordkeeping.

● Prepare and present data-driven reports that assess the impact of DLRC services and inform institutional planning.

● Leads weekly DLRC meetings.

● Manages department budget and expenditures, identifies and purchases adaptive technology and other disability related equipment.

● Stay informed through professional development, networking activities, and active membership in the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

● Represents the DLRC on campus-wide committees such as the Student Support Team, Workplace Accessibility and Accommodations Committee, Senate Curriculum Committee, and Academic Access Program.

● Foster relationships with community resources, clinical providers, and educational agencies to support student referrals and continuity of care.

● Performs other duties as requested, delegated or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

● Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in disability studies, rehabilitation counseling, special education, psychology, social work, or a related field.

● Minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in higher education disability services or a related area.

● Demonstrated expertise in serving college students with disabilities, with a particular emphasis on psychological disabilities.

● In-depth knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Universal Design principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

● Proven leadership and team management skills in higher education.

● Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; adept at cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

● Familiarity with federal and state disability resources and agencies.

● Strong intercultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice in a diver
