Business Area Wind is responsible for Vattenfall’s Onshore and Offshore Wind as well as other renewable activities such as solar PV and batteries. We develop, construct and operate wind generation and we have a clear strategy to develop our solar PV and battery operations further.
We now have an opportunity for the right candidate to further strengthen our team as Senior Electrical Systems and Components Engineer for the WTG Electrical System Team which is located in Offshore Engineering, with focus area of WTG Frequency Converter Technology.
The Engineering department is a team of highly qualified experts and the technical know-how centre within Business Area Wind, setting the standards and guidelines as well as being embedded within our projects, both through the development and implementation phase and later on take over the support to the operations as Backoffice. You will be a part of the WTG System Engineering team, working with colleagues located across the various European locations.

Your main responsibilities will be to assist and support the Engineering organization with operational control of the WTG’s both Electrical and Mechanical. Additionally, build up knowledge on these topics, create and deploy best practices for the industry. In this context, continuous learning and recognizing the potential of constantly improving technology are crucial.
During the Operational phase we support throughout the lifetime by assessment of technical solutions, RCA’s on main component level, and technical integrity of the components and systems.
Description of the position as Senior Electrical Systems and Components Engineer - WTG Frequency Converter Technology
To provide technical and project-based expertise into the business in range of extensive experience in the electrical design of modern wind turbines, and wind farm systems including;
- Ad hoc support to the O&M organisation with technical expertise from commissioning to end of warranty to decommissioning of the windfarm.
- Performance of Root Cause Analysis and Risk Assessments
- Investigation of predictive maintenance strategies for WTG electrical systems by use of FMECA
- Supporting the projects during the Technical Due Diligence and contract phase.
- Support to interface management during construction phase of electrical installations in on- and offshore wind farms.
- Establish relationships with internal stakeholders like operation and maintenance, project managers and suppliers.
- Preparation of technical requirements for the projects and their clarification during the preparation of contract documents.
- In particular, compliance with the quality requirements in relation to the entire operation life time of the assets must be taken into account
- Review of design documentation from suppliers and contractors to ensure that projects are completed according to specifications.
- Power system protection philosophy for WTG and networks (protection functions, relays settings, signal interface with SCADA, etc.)
- Be active in the machine interface learning for WTG’s and wind farms.
- Preparing/updating technical documentation.
Qualifications
Your Essential Qualifications as Senior Electrical Systems and Components Engineer - WTG Frequency Converter Technology
- M. Sc. in Electrical Engineering or comparable
- Broad-based theoretical knowledge and practical foundation
- Required knowledge / experience in:
- WTG Frequency Converter Technology
- Wind industry project engineering
- Trouble-shooting within components and complex mechatronic systems
- Preferred knowledge / experience in:
- Offshore wind industry with its state of the art technology
- Debugging of fault events on WTG - and park level
- Python, Matlab Simulink or comparable data analysis tools
- Basic knowledges in the following topics are welcome but not requested
- EMR, EMC, Lightning and Bonding
- HV 66 kV / 132 kV WTG power equipment as switchgear and cable between trafo and switchgear
- Open mindset such as exploring unknown areas
