Mechanic Master classification will examine, diagnose, inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild mechanical and electrical components of general automotive, diesel, and heavy-duty equipment and fire apparatus. Provide technical assistance to all other mechanics as needed. Perform service calls as needed.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform servicing functions to include oil changes, greasing, lubrication; repair, replacement, rotation and balancing of tires; replacement of batteries, and drive belts on county vehicles, on road & off-road trucks, equipment, & fire apparatus.
2. Respond to vehicle and equipment service calls from county fleet operators to include fire personnel and heavy equipment operators.
3. Perform other preventive maintenance functions such as transmission, power steering and coolant flushes. Check brake systems, and repair windshields. Perform other required vehicle maintenance checks documenting all work assignments.
4. Conduct vehicle inspections, diagnose, repair, and replace vehicle components such as bulbs, emergency lighting, batteries, headlights, equipment cutting blades as required.
5. Deliver fuel to County equipment at County authorized job sites.
6. Perform cosmetic repairs such as bumper strengthening and vehicle decal installation, replacement and removal.
7. Diagnose, service and repair drive train and hydraulic systems including the repair of hydraulic cylinders, repacking of seals and other hydraulic work.
8. Analyze automotive electrical circuits for various defects.
9. Analyze, test, service, repair, and replace complete heating and air-conditioning systems.
10. Inspect, service, repair and replace complete front and rear-end suspensions.
11. Service, repair, and replace complete brake systems and perform major engine tune-ups.
12. Inspect, service, diagnose, repair, and replace complete exhaust, fuel injection and carburetor systems.
13. Conduct in-depth emissions system diagnosis and repairs.
14. Diagnose, repair, and replace major components such as water pumps, fire pumps, starters, alternators, and generators.
15. Perform complete engine repair or replacement. Perform in and out of frame overhauls.
16. Diagnose, adjust, repair, and replace complete fuel management systems.
17. Diagnose, repair, and replace complete transmission systems and components.
18. Fabricate, weld, and repair a variety of equipment and devices.
19. Perform service and repair of emergency vehicles; Fire Apparatus and/or Ambulances.
20. Master Mechanic’s in the General Fleet sop, perform emission testing, by Voluntary Status.
21. Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned and assist all other levels of mechanics as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED, plus five (5) years mechanic experience that may include one (1) year vocational training in the automotive field obtained from a post-secondary institution of either a Master ASE Mechanic Certification in Automotive (A Series) or a Master ASE Mechanic Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck (T Series).
