About the role

 

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director, serve as administrative support for the Office of Academic Research/Research Development and provide full range of moderate to complex clerical support activities associated with the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as administrative support to the Office of Academic Research and Office of Research Development. Provide a full range of moderate to complex clerical and secretarial work assignments; duties will include answering the phone, assisting visitors, and coordinate campus deliveries.
  • Serve as front line contact for campus and community members, utilizing strong problem solving and interpersonal skills to provide correspondence and communication. Track, compare, and update data spreadsheets with accurate information addressing any problems or discrepancies and compile reports as needed. Contribute to moderate scope projects to support office operations. Tasks include but are not limited to assisting with event publicity and website maintenance.
  • Utilize knowledge of applicable university and office infrastructure, policies, procedures, methods, and practices to provide program and event support including but not limited to coordinating campus reservations and catering arrangements, collecting necessary materials and information for events and ensuring all logistics are in place. As well as providing day-of-event support, ensuring smooth execution and addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Perform other classification-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or its equivalent AND two years of experience in general office clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience to be proficient in performing most or all work assignments.
  • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Fluency in using standard office software packages.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures. Able to identify deviations from applicable policies.
  • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and, at times, creative solutions.
  • Ability to perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
  • Work often involves front line contacts with a variety of campus and community individuals requiring active problem solving and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in effectively presenting standard information in writing.
  • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Equivalent to two years of general office experience, which included providing work direction or acting as a lead.   
  • General knowledge of evaluation principles and techniques and skill in their application; general knowledge of organization and management; and general knowledge of higher education policies, nonprofit organizations, service-learning pedagogy, and fund development is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,505-$3,820 per month

Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,159 per month

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Non-Exempt/Probationary  

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
