Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is seeking a Software Engineering Mid-Level Manager for the MQ-25 Program to lead a team of Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) software activities in Hazelwood, MO.  The successful candidate will have a passion for working with people and for delivering exceptional products and services to our customers.  The team works closely with other MQ-25 teams to successfully deliver a quality product.  This position in the software organization will align with Air Dominance VMS Software Team. 

The MQ-25 is a new unmanned aircraft system designed to provide the U.S. Navy with a much-needed robust refueling capability. The MQ-25 will allow for better use of combat strike fighters by extending the range of deployed Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler, and Lockheed Martin F-35C aircraft. The MQ-25 will also seamlessly integrate with a carrier’s catapult and launch and recovery systems. 

The VMS Software Team is responsible for the development and maintenance of flight and subsystem control software for the MQ-25. The successful candidate will work with an existing team of real-time embedded software engineers; guidance, navigation and control (GNC) engineers; and hardware engineers to develop safety critical software. VMS software integrates flight control laws, aircraft surface command, aircraft sensor signal processing and subsystem control to ensure controlled flight. The software developed will include application layer software and low-level infrastructure software which will require close collaboration with hardware/firmware vendors. This position will manage the full software development lifecycle; including requirements development, design, code, desktop test, lab test and support of flight test.

This position is designed to directly support the MQ-25 program, but will be structurally aligned to Boeing Enterprise Software organization, reporting to the Air Dominance VMS software senior manager.

  • Manage software engineers through the software development life-cycle
  • Provide leadership focused on the development of individuals' skills and abilities so that they can fulfill current or future job/role responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with peers, business partners, customers, and other stakeholders
  • Takes a collaborative approach to develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures, and develop and maintain roadmaps
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes and provides oversight and approval of technical approaches in alignment with organizational strategy

The selected candidate will be required to perform 100% work onsite at one of the listed location options, consistent with the program expectations.

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance for which the US Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 5+ years of experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, engineers, writers, product managers and software developers
  • Experience with Project management tools and practices as well as knowledge of project and software implementation
  • Experience working with agile teams and agile software development
