Performs professional library duties and provides on-site technical assistance in order to provide and maintain timely and effective customer service to Library customers.
Ideal Candidate
Library Services is seeking a Library Service & Technology Guide - Tier 2 (Early Literacy Specialist) to plan, create, and perform systemwide early literacy experiences for Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library as part of the Early Literacy Team.
The Early Literacy Team is responsible for the effective development and execution of programs and services in support of early literacy and reading readiness for infants through preschoolers and connecting with parents and caregivers. Members of the Early Literacy team regularly travel to library branches throughout Hillsborough County to deliver early literacy programming.
We are looking for an energetic and creative professional who has a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in programming for early literacy. The ideal candidate will be able to clearly communicate the library’s mission and infuse Every Child Ready to Read standards through the development and delivery of early literacy experiences. Bilingual skills (speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in English and Spanish) are highly desirable.
The Library Service & Technology Guide - Tier 2 (Early Literacy Specialist) will:
- Plan, promote, and present in-person and virtual early literacy programming, including, but not limited to, baby time, toddler time, story time, family story time, and early learning experiences.
- Plan, promote, and present in-person and virtual caregiver education and provide independent at-home activities that further reinforce the content.
- Work collaboratively as part of a centralized team of early literacy programmers to ensure consistent delivery across the library’s 27 locations.
- Create a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the development level and interests of the children and families.
- Maintain current knowledge of early literacy education, including early childhood development, legislation, educational programs, and health and social services trends.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with branch staff in designated locations where providing programming.
- Keep current with children’s literature by reading professional journals.
- Recommend and select early literacy program materials, manipulatives, and toys that meet assessment standards.
Starting Salary
$39,312 - $51,105

Duties and Responsibilities

- Provides front-line customer service assistance via phone, email or in person to internal and external customers. Provides direction, promotion of and instruction in accessing and using the library’s automated circulation system, computerized databases, library related software, e-book and digital magazine platforms, general office equipment.
- Manages customer accounts, including Library card registration, fines and fees within the integrated library system.
- Performs troubleshooting and instruction on a variety of hardware, software and general office equipment. Maintains digital literacy awareness and education.
