Logistics Supervisor

This role will have both direct and indirect managerial responsibilities for Logistics, Planning, Inventory Management, Procurement, and Critical Spares management. The role will work closely with site/global leaders from each of these teams to align on processes, develop training and roll-out plans, and strive for continuous improvement. From the Logistics perspective, this role will directly oversee all logistics services, third parties, and warehouse operations in support of the overall site operations. The individual will drive continuous improvement and productivity projects to improve the operational efficiency and cost effectiveness for the sites. Effective communications and collaboration with site leaders, supervisors and senior leadership is essential to present and implement improvements in our current state and drive towards the future vision.

Operations

• Manage labor level at the site based on current and future volume expectations.

• Work closely with the regional/site/global Planning function to understand required production schedules and be the on-site liaison to the plant production execution team.

• Responsible for leading the scheduling and tracking of inbound and outgoing shipments

• Manage cadence of SMOG activities to ensure accuracy and safety compliance  

• Supervise logistics technicians responsible for international and domestic shipping, receiving, storage, and other site logistics operations

• Manage all indirect material storage, shipping, receiving, and internal delivery for internal customer groups (Maintenance, Engineering, R&D,etc.)

• Ensure that proper training is completed and maintained across the shipping teams for local regulations, ICAO/IATA, and IMDG 

• Ensure timely and accurate completion of import and export filings, customs transactions, and any other activities needed to ensure effective international shipping

• Oversee the scheduling of daily and annual tasks for Logistics personnel

• Train job functions of Logistics personnel by SOP and specifications

• Drive culture of continuous improvement in safety, cost, and service quality and manage 5s implementation throughout the warehouse facilities

• Coordinate calibration schedule of warehouse equipment with applicable vendors and or maintenance department

• Oversee the training of new personnel on logistics systems and functional cross-training

• Update and maintain standard operating procedures for site logistics

• Investigate root causes on issues with shipping/receiving, product damage, and carrier issues

• Participate in plant operations meetings as appropriate (Haz ops, safety meetings, FMEAs etc)

• Establish and maintain a strong relationship with other departments as needed on logistics processes / quality issues (Supply Chain, Facilities, Sales and Marketing, and Production)

• Establish and maintain a strong relationship with PDL, Sales & Marketing on new product development

• Establish and maintain effective communication with QC lab personnel regarding product analyses as needed

• Manage and audit warehouse optimization and 5S activities at each site. 

• Provide solid safety leadership

• Provide monthly input on notable accomplishments and regular reports

• Successfully complete all assigned tasks and trainings

Transportation

• Responsible for ALAM adherence to all hazardous materials shipping and handling procedures across the US sites.  

• Responsible for managing bulk gas (Hydrogen, Nitrogen) fleets, including monitoring the flow of ISOs in transit

• Responsible for managing Third-Party companies that act as intermediaries for Hydrogen ISO fleet, including storage yards, ISO retest facilities, and AirGas filling stations

• Manage Import and Export procedures, performance and relationships with the Freight Forwarders and Brokers.  

• Manage Import and Export procedures between international entities

• Audit performance and Manage the relationships of ALAM-preferred Freight Forwarders and Brokers

• Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs
