Job Description
AECOM Transportation in New England is actively seeking a hardworking, creative, experienced Rail Planning Lead for immediate employment.
Imagine working on rewarding rail and transit projects throughout New England and nationally, within a growing multimodal transportation planning team. Be a leader on some of the best and most challenging rail/multimodal projects regionally, with opportunities to work on projects nationally.
The appropriate qualified candidate is expected to have project management experience. He/she possesses technical excellence in a specialty area that is critical to the success of the firm. He/she will source and follow up on business development leads. He/she will supervise the work of others and coach planners with less experience. Financial and project management goals are defined by the organization annually. He/she is actively sought out by clients for his/her expertise and has a strong professional network.
The responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Project manager, task leader, or key planning role on small scale to large scale rail and multimodal transportation projects
- Ability to manage and work on several projects or issues simultaneously
- Ability to provide leadership, effective supervision and staff/budget and project management skills
- Coordinate across business lines to bring teams together to solve complex infrastructure challenges
- Serve as Capture Manager for business development pursuits relating to rail, transit, and multimodal transportation planning
- Lead rail planning projects and tasks
- Support development of sustainable mobility projects, including long range transportation plans, innovative approaches to developing transportation alternatives for the future
- Work with New England offices to support and help develop the transportation planning practice throughout the region
- Support climate change related planning projects and initiatives throughout the region and lead NEPA projects
- Analyze planning projects related to transportation including land use policies, impact of projects and long-range planning needs
- Define regional and local transportation planning problems and priorities
- Prepare reports, recommendations, assessments and impact statements
- Collaborate with land use planners, zoning professionals, economists and travel demand modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation, rail and transit design issues
- Review and assist in designing public information surveys (online and intercept type) to identify areas of public concern
- Lead public meetings or hearings to explain planning proposals, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs
- Support efforts in developing and implementing projects related to corridor planning, highway/roadway/complete streets, bus stops, stations, and emerging technologies in transportation: e.g. automated and connected vehicles, TNCs and electric vehicles
- Support transportation-related grant writing efforts
- Direct development of stakeholder surveys and lead stakeholder engagement activities
- Direct data collection efforts like ridership, bicycle/pedestrian counts, surveys, etc.
- Direct the development of maps and graphics
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Transit agency, state department of transportation, or federal agency (public sector) experience
- Ability to identify market opportunities and lead proposal and project capture efforts
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
