Are you driven to overcome the complexities of transitioning autonomous systems from small-scale deployments to meeting and surpassing commercial operational design domain (ODD) requirements? May Mobility is entering an exciting growth phase following the launch of our third driver-out site, and we're seeking a talented Autonomy Test and Evaluation Strategy Lead Engineer. This critical role will define a comprehensive testing and performance evaluation strategy, enabling us to achieve our ambitious goal of delivering fully autonomous rides at a massive scale. Successful candidates will bring strategic vision, extensive knowledge of autonomous driving testing methodologies, and excellent communication skills to ensure effective implementation of guidelines and processes.
The Autonomy Testing and Evaluation Strategy Lead Engineer will report to the Sr Manager for Integrated Autonomy R&D and will spearhead the continuous evaluation of May Mobility’s autonomous driving technologies during both development and deployment phases. This rigorous evaluation is essential to our scaling efforts. Our objective is to regularly introduce new capabilities and precisely measure their performance improvements while upholding the highest standards of safety and passenger comfort.
This role offers the unique opportunity to develop and implement a cohesive vision for the effective testing and evaluation of May Mobility's autonomous capabilities as we scale and expand our Operational Design Domain (ODD). We seek a candidate with a deep passion for achieving high-quality autonomy – ensuring our systems are safe, comfortable, capable, and reliable. The ideal candidate will be proactive in planning and communicating processes and guidelines to consistently meet and exceed our rigorous quality expectations. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement a robust, comprehensive autonomy testing and evaluation strategy that supports rapid feature development while ensuring high-quality, scalable autonomy performance.
- Establish and enforce clear, effective testing and evaluation guidelines and processes across all autonomy departments to ensure consistent adherence.
- Develop and implement processes for analyzing integrated software quality, focusing on critical dimensions such as safety, capability, comfort, and reliability.
- Define and own Operational Design Domain (ODD)-level autonomy Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and collaborate cross-functionally to define, implement, track, and present performance metrics throughout the autonomy product lifecycle.
- Train and mentor autonomy leaders and engineers on strong testing and evaluation principles, fostering a culture of excellence and best practices.
- Proactively identify and resolve gaps and barriers that hinder effective testing and analysis, including simulation test escapes and false positives, driving continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with the Safety test and validation team to determine the optimal balance between simulation and on-vehicle testing, and develop joint autonomy and safety testing objectives and master plans.
- Maintain expert knowledge of existing and future simulation test suites, and lead and oversee the creation and evolution of these suites, including identification of the optimal composition of synthetic and logstream scenarios for ODD-based testing.
