The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Warden of Operations at Big Muddy River Correctional Center in Ina, Illinois. Essential Functions
- As Assistant Warden, provides input into the development, establishment, and implementation of institutional rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures of the institution to ensure proper operation of the daily functions.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the overall Operations function and their managers, including security, physical plant operations, dietary services, individual in custody discipline, and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Conducts routine and unscheduled safety, health, sanitation, and security inspection tours throughout the institution.
- Serves as Chairman of the Safety and Sanitation Committee.
- Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, trainings and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution programs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
- Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public law enforcement organization, a private law enforcement organization, a correctional facility, or related field.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires an appropriate, valid driver's license.
- Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.
- Requires the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
