Job Summary
As the Quality Assurance Specialist or Food Safety Specialist for GW Dining, you will be responsible for promoting, enforcing, maintaining and verifying quality assurance reporting standards are in place, in accordance with Industry and Compass Group policies.
You will be responsible for executing and maintaining all QA Programs, meeting state and Compass Group requirements, and ensuring the quality and safety of supplied goods and services are offered to the GWU Community.
You will do this through the performance of on-site inspections, audits, evaluations and training in the area of food safety and/ or sanitation, as further described below.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing QA training for salaried and hourly associates on a regular basis
- Train all associates on QA policies and procedures, and maintain accurate records
- Verify that the campus dining QA system is effective and make changes as necessary
- Communicate with client, management and campus dining managers and chefs on all Quality Assurance issues
- Perform Quality Assurance and Sanitation Audits on a daily and weekly basis
- Provide written feedback to managers & chefs regarding non-compliant observations after inspections are completed
- Resolve immediate violations, and develop SOP’s to reduce/eliminate future occurrences
- Report all QA, food safety and occupational safety issues that are identified at the time of daily and routine account inspections/audits to leadership
- Initiate and conduct all internal BOH inspections and audits
- Participate in all external audits with third parties
- Work with Compass Group and Clients’ procurement teams to ensure effective methods (i.e.- purchasing, receiving, holding, transport, etc.) are in in place
- Complete corrective action plans that include preventative measures are executed
- Work with Managers and Chefs to ensure all corrective /preventative actions are effective and sustained
- Continually verify competency of associates and recommend disciplinary action as appropriate
- Produce quarterly QA Dashboard detailing trends and compliance to report out in client reviews (monthly and quarterly)
- Responsible for occupational safety program logs and safety board program
- Responsible for all Compass Group safety program policies and standards including completion of QSI and MFSI at 100%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum CP-FS credentials/certification required
- Current ServSafe certification required
- Understanding of FDA Food Code and local DC Department of Health Regulations (Former DC Department of Health Inspector or other DOH preferred but not required)
- The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in science (e.g. food science, food technology, environmental science, nutrition/dietetics) with a minimum of two years employment comprised of one year in food protection and one year in foodservice or retail food operations, with responsibilities including oversight and monitoring of proper food safety practices; OR an Associate’s Degree in science (e.g. food science, food technology, environmental science, nutrition/dietetics) with a minimum of four years employment comprised of one year in food protection and three years in foodservice or retail food operations, with responsibilities including oversight and monitoring of proper food safety practices.
