DSPS Support Lab Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY

The Support Lab Teacher plays an important role in providing a Christ-centered, academically supportive environment for students with diverse learning needs. Reporting to the Director of the Department of Special Programs and Services (DSPS), this teacher collaborates closely with students, parents, and faculty to monitor academic progress, implement accommodations, and foster the development of executive functioning and study skills. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication, instructional versatility across subjects, and a passion for helping students succeed both academically and spiritually. This position calls for a nurturing, highly organized educator who promotes a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere that reflects Orange Lutheran High School’s core values of Biblical truth, integrity, innovation, excellence, and relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Instruction

• Deliver Christ-centered, engaging instruction in a supportive classroom environment
• Integrate Biblical principles, prayer, and a Christian worldview throughout curriculum
• Help students grow academically and personally by developing study and thinking skills
• Adjust teaching methods to support different learning needs
• Focus Support Lab time on building students’ executive functioning and academic skills
• Provide practical study strategies to foster student independence
• Communicate regularly with students and families about progress and expectations
• Collaborate with the DSPS Director and colleagues to support student growth
• Teach students effective study habits and learning tools to build independence
• Keep students and parents updated on progress, assignments, and expectations

Classroom Management

• Establish clear learning outcomes and expectations
• Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment
• Manage student behavior and enforce classroom rules and expectations
• Foster a culture of respect, cooperation, and mutual understanding among students
• Communicate with students, parents, other faculty, staff, counselors, and administrators regarding academic and behavioral issues
• Assure proper supervision of students during all school-related on and off-campus activities
• Carry out safety and emergency procedures per school policy

Student Assessment and Support

• Monitor and support students’ academic, social, and emotional development
• Maintain accurate records and enforce school policies
• Give timely, constructive feedback to help students improve
• Support students with personal or academic challenges
• Manage testing accommodations, including extended time and assignment support
• Ensure completion of weekly planner tasks, grade checks, and family communication
• Help students stay organized and on task during class
• Offer learning strategies for students and collaborate with teachers on proactive support
• Partner with counselors and support staff to promote student success

Professionalism and Development

• Stay current with best teaching practices through ongoing professional development
• Maintain respectful, professional relationships with students, families, and staff
• Participate in school events, meetings, trainings, and retreats
• Receive and apply feedback to improve instruction and support
• Reflect on and grow in your professional and spiritual role

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Maintain instructional materials for substitute teachers
• Supervise Daily Gathering settings
• Additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Deans, or Department Chair
