Dock Operations Center Monitor Job Description

Post Operations

The loading dock is a high traffic multi-purpose loading and unloading area for the Devon Energy Center.  All deliveries will be scheduled in advance and will be received and processed at this location. All vendors are required to check in at the Dock Operations Center and receive a vendor access card if the driver requires entry to the facility.

Dock Access

The Dock Operations Center Monitor is responsible for the issue and accountability of vendor access cards and maintaining an accurate log of issued vendor cards. All vendors will present proper company identification card and/or a valid federal or state issued photo identification card upon entering.

Dock Processing

The Dock Operations Center Monitors’ primary responsibility is to limit dock access to authorized deliveries and vendors only. The normal hours of operation for the dock are 0500-1300 hours Monday through Friday.

When a delivery arrives at the dock ramp, an available officer will check the bill of lading and inspect the vehicle. Once the inspection is complete, the officer will notify the dock monitor of the company, name of driver and that the vehicle has been checked and is clear to enter. Once the dock monitor verifies authorized entry, the SCC operator will lower the barriers. The dock monitor will then check the delivery driver’s license and company identification. After the credentials are checked, he will assign a vendor access card if the delivery driver requires entry to the facility.

Due to high traffic and the importance of safe operations, the Dock Monitor should remain in the immediate area.  If the Dock Monitor needs to leave the immediate area, he will notify SCC before doing so.

Searches

The Dock Monitor is authorized to search any incoming/outgoing packages as well as backpacks and tote bags. Discretion should be used in identifying and/or searching any items and only suspicious items should be searched.  Listed below are a few guidelines for conducting searches.

Emergencies

In the event of a medical/fire emergency, the dock monitor will be notified and will assist in directing emergency response personnel to the dock by ensuring the barriers are in the down position. Freight elevators in the dock area will be utilized to transport emergency personnel and gear to/from the floor where the victim(s) are located. Once the crew is prepared to depart, the dock monitor will ensure that the barriers are in the down position.

Medical supplies have been placed in the Dock Office:

  • First aid bag [green in color] with an oxygen bottle
  • Heartstart AED

EHS will check on the AED monthly.  If the AED goes into alarm (chirping) contact EHS.
