Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Accountant to work at Western Illinois Correctional Center. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills and shows great attention to detail.  This position posts and maintains detailed accounting books, journals and ledgers for all locally held funds. Responsibilities also include maintaining automated inventory control and reconciliations, maintaining property control system and input changes, and auditing internal fiscal procedures. Essential Functions

• Posts and maintains detailed accounting books and subsidiary journals and ledgers for all locally held funds.
• Maintains automated inventory control and reconciliations for Employee and Individual Commissary.  
• Maintains Property Control System and inputs changes.
• Provides guidance for input and auditing of fiscal documents to automated asset control systems for commodities, property, trust fund, and budgetary accounting.
• Audits internal fiscal procedures.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
• Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requir
