Position Overview

The Accountant position at Sheridan Correctional Center performs time sensitive accounting tasks to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all State and Federal Regulations. The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated, task orientated, and organized individual with strong interpersonal skills and ability to meet deadlines. Job Responsibilities

1. Posts and maintains locally held fund journals, processing through the Fund Accounting & Commissary Trading System (FACTS).
2. Finalizes individuals in custody commissary purchasing through FACTS.
3. Prepares monthly financial reports and statements.
4. Audits and posts travel disbursements to Employee Travel Journal before they are sent in for reimbursement.
5. Assists in the preparation of semi-annual bids for the large quantity commissary items.
6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting OR four (4) years of technical accounting experience.

 

Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience applying technical professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures.
2. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience evaluating accounting problems and analyzing and interpreting complex account reports and records.
3. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience performing detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to accounting and auditing problems.
4. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience performing detailed work involving written or numerical data to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
5. Prefers at least two (2) years of applying laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
6. Prefers at least one (1) year experience working with a computer including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

 

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
