Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a detailed oriented person to serve as the Corrections Maintenance Craftsman at the Centralia Correctional Center. This individual will repair the facilities plumbing and electrical work. This individual will be working with individuals in custody. We are seeking a candidate that would be a self - motivated, task oriented, organized individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs electrical maintenance work at the journeyman level in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment.
- Performs maintenance and new construction plumbing work.
- Maintains records and completes reports of materials used on each job.
- Performs maintenance and new construction carpenter work.
- Performs maintenance and new construction work supervising a individual in custody crew in the performance of work involving the use of concrete, cement, bricks and cement blocks.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one (1) of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
- Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
- Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
