About the role

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM), seeks an innovative and strategic Division Director to lead the Advanced Technology and Analysis Division within the Global Security Directorate (GSD). The GSD plays a vital role in supporting National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Defense Programs, the Department of Defense/Department of War, Department of Homeland Security, and other DOE and government agencies.

The Division Director collaborates closely with the Associate Laboratory Director to guide science and technology programs, set a clear vision, and implement strategic plans. The Division Director works with their leadership team, other Mission-Enablement Directors, and Laboratory’s staff to develop and execute priorities. Together with the other Division Directors, this position participates in institutional research and management initiatives, develops cross-cutting research proposals and initiatives, and fosters collaboration across SRNL and with partner universities and external institutions.

About the Team
The Global Security Directorate (GSD) of the SRNL provides a team focused on being the leading scientific and technological innovator for national and global security. GSD pursues integrated advanced sensing, decision science (AI/ML), and energy resilience infrastructure solutions.

We provide unparalleled expertise in the processing and safeguarding of nuclear materials (such as plutonium, uranium, americium, neptunium, and tritium), to anticipate, detect, and counter evolving threats to critical assets and the global energy landscape. We also support knowledge development and infrastructure upgrades for nuclear reprocessing science and technology programs at SRNL. GSD actively engages in partnerships with government agencies, energy providers, industry and sibling DOE National Laboratories to share knowledge to coordinate our approach.

GSD is growing its support of its critical portfolios and is building its teams to support these enduring programs.   • Provide direct line management responsibilities within the Global Security Directorate.
  • Promote a culture of scientific excellence, by maintaining a routine physical presence, while performing work in a safe and secure manner to ensure all division work is planned and executed safely and in full compliance with environmental, safety, health, quality, and security requirements.
  • Proactively promote principles of stewardship, and accessibility and ensure the division has the capabilities, tools, talent, and partnerships needed to execute its missions effectively and on time.
  • Manage the division’s budget, financial performance, facilities, and capital and infrastructure needs, leading the formulation of long-term, mission-critical plans to sustain and grow division capabilities. Ensure delivery of high-quality products on scope, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Contribute as a key member of the GSD Senior Leadership Team to the formulation and execution of GSD’s strategic priorities, initiatives and programmatic growth.
  • Oversee the recruitment and retention of talent, ensuring a diverse applicant pool and employee workforce.
  • Develop and execute strategic workforce and succession plans that align directly with the Lab Agenda, core competencies, and overall division goals
  • Promote science education and work to build a pipeline of next generation researchers through outreach and education programs with other national laboratories and learning institutions.
  • Advance SRNL’s standing and visibility in the division’s technical domains through appropriate publications, presentations, professional leadership, and strategic external relationships.
  • Foster employee development through mentoring, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Act as primary Division contact, representing the Division on Lab-Level committees, task forces, and working groups with a shared responsibility for the overall lab-wide science and technology strategy.
  • Integrate and implement commercialization activities through the Laboratory’s business plan and strategies.
  • Develop communications strategies across the directorate on multi-disciplinary programs and initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate relevant information to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead community engagement activities to support regional and national stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Laboratory Director
