Job Description

Manufacturing Strategy, Business Development and Alliances is responsible for the development and realization of the strategy for the Manufacturing division and oversees the core enterprise manufacturing functions. This includes the Strategy and Portfolio Management office, Global Supply Business Development (GSBD) which evaluates acquisitions, divestitures, and licensing opportunities, Manufacturing Business Alliance Management (MBAM) which manages our regional and global manufacturing strategic partnerships, Network Strategy and Third Party Sales (NSTPS) which oversees the global manufacturing footprint, global product source changes, and Third Party Contract Manufacturing and the Manufacturing Leadership Development Program (MLDP) which recruits and accelerates future talent for the division.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Manufacturing Business Alliance Management the Director, Strategic Alliances is the key point of contact between our Company and partner organizations, with responsibility for coordinating cross-enterprise / cross-company execution to ensure that the goals of strategic collaborations are achieved.

Specific duties vary according to scope and lifecycle stage of the portfolio, but typically include:     

  • Manage and support existing global strategic alliances of varying size and complexity

  • Ensures that all divisional and manufacturing issues are addressed and optimized to meet both short and long term business objectives over the course of the alliance lifecycle.     

  • Ensure contractual responsibilities and obligations are understood and met by both parties

  • Support evolution of alliances through their full life cycle

  • Participate as Alliance Management’s representative to internal and joint governance bodies and oversight committees

  • Ensure governance of partnerships is efficient, timely and consistent with contractual requirements, while considering necessary linkages to our Company senior management and internal governance mechanisms

  • Identify, engage and align key stakeholders, across multiple functions, to support alliance goals  

  • Collaborates closely with Corporate, our Research & Development Division, and HH Alliance Management functions as well as our Manufacturing Division functional areas (e.g. Legal, Finance, External Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Quality, Science & Technology, and Manufacturing Operations) on a regular basis. 

  • Monitor and report overall status and health of alliances; identify areas of risk or opportunity to the respective business areas

  • Proactively identify and resolve conflicts; when appropriate, escalate conflicts/disputes via appropriate channels, consistent with contract mechanisms

  • Maintain open and continuous channels of communication across both companies.

  • Contribute to building organizational capabilities in managing alliances

Required Attributes / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management and/or related disciplines

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain Management, Quality, Science and Technology, Global Procurement, External Manufacturing, and/or related business areas. 

  • Candidate must be accomplishment oriented (self-motivated and persistent), possess a "business owner" mentality, possess the ability to influence without authority, and demonstrate the ability to effectively operate in an ambiguous/changing environment 

  • The position requires sound understanding of our Manufacturing Division divisional strategy and objectives, key company business processes, and general understanding of financial and manufacturing process / issues. 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead informally in ambiguous situations, with minimal direction

  • Strong business, commercial, development and financial acumen

  • Superior collaborative skills, with an ability to work across cultural, geographic, and hierarchical boundaries

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver effective executive-level communications

Preferred Attributes / Skills

  • International / Global experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical setting

  • Prior roles with broad cross-functional / enterprise-wide experience or exposure

  • Experience reading, understanding, interpreting and providing input into complex legal documents and contracts

  • Strong change management skills

  • Prior experience leading teams or direct people management experience

  • CA-AM/CSA
