About the Role
Jellyfish is looking for an Engineering Director (Hybrid Working - 60% remote) to join our global engineering team. If you enjoy coding, sharing ideas and love being part of a collaborative team within a growing international agency, then this is the role for you.
The role is a combination of technical support for new business development, leadership of the Engineering department, coaching of more junior developers and hand-on engineering as needed.
This role will be the most senior engineering resource in our Americas region, providing an amazing growth opportunity for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- You will be working as part of a customer-centric product development team, responsible for designing, building and maintaining both new and existing products and services.
- You will be contributing towards client & internal projects, and ensuring the work Jellyfish delivers is of high quality.
- You will contribute to new business opportunities and the scoping of features for new and existing clients, providing accurate estimations for work.
- You will contribute to the design, implementation, continuous improvement and governance of Jellyfish Engineering Standards & Practices.
- You will take ownership of the quality, consistency and efficiency of Jellyfish solutions and teams for client & internal work.
- You will provide expert-level architectural solutions that factor in the timeline, budget, scope, maintainability, reusability and Site Reliability Engineering principles.
- You will act as a technical coach and mentor to existing team members, ensuring efficiency on projects and supporting their personal development.
- You will work with our Engineering Resource Manager to effectively delegate assignments across multiple concurrent projects.
- You will be part of the Jellyfish Engineering Steering Group, provide leadership for colleagues and the department and drive business performance, client success and quality outputs.
- You will investigate and pitch new work, create roadmaps, investigate and articulate the right technical approach (and why), to support the Jellyfish Sales & Partnership Capability and be client-facing.
Qualifications
What you’ll need
- Leadership experience working in a software engineer role (PHP or similar).
- Experience architecting and delivering large-scale solutions with a distributed architecture.
- Experience designing and delivering Content Management Systems (WordPress, Drupal, Strapi or other headless solutions), Frameworks (Laravel), and an understanding of Relational Database Schemas (e.g. MySQL), APIs (e.g. REST).
- Experience delivering solutions using industry standards (e.g. PHP PSR-4/PSR-12).
- Experience architecting & delivering solutions that utilise package managers (e.g. Composer, NPM) and web services (JSON/XML APIs).
- Experience with applying and enforcing Agile/Lean (iterative) development practices.
- 5years of professional experience.
- Fluent English speaking or proficient written and spoken English - C1 or C2 Common Eurpoean Frame of Reference (CEFR).

- Strong verbal and communication skills (both technical and non-technical).
- Open, honest and direct, comfortable in giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Self-motivated with a sense of ownership.
- Experience working as a Scrum Master or in Agile teams.
- Experience working with a Continuous Integration/Delivery process.
- Experience with applying TDD/BDD development techniques.
- Experience with Node, NPM, AngularJS, VueJS, ReactJS.
- Experience developing solutions with Headless CMS tools.
