POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director, Service Line Development at St. Charles Health System is a strategic role that is responsible for growth and development initiatives for the cardiovascular service line across the care continuum including clinical and operational work plans. This position helps shape strategic initiatives using thought leadership, communication, and flexibility in the development of operating plans. This position helps facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensures strategic alignment, and executes a wide variety of key growth initiatives both within the cardiovascular service line and the broader organization as a whole such as: the emergency room, primary care, hospitalists, pharmacy, etc. This may range from supporting the pursuit of wide-spread clinical excellence as an organization through care pathways/episodes, service line strategic goals, management of the service line quality structure and registries, and a continual understanding of the magnitude of business growth opportunities in line with our long-range strategic, operational, and financial goals.   

This position is both strategic and critical to the systematic operating function of the service line and will handle day-to-day activities to help create capacity service line leaders to focus on innovation and future state performance. This individual does not directly manage caregivers and will work in a hybrid blend of remote and from any St. Charles Health System location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Collaborates with the St. Charles leadership team to develop, communicate, and execute system service line strategic goals, ensuring alignment with the overall health system objectives.

Acts as a liaison to foster collaboration across various departments, including Clinical, Operations, Administrative, Financial, Safety/Quality, and Information Technology to ensure seamless execution of strategic initiatives.

Identifies areas for process optimization within clinical and operational work streams. Implements best practices and streamlines workflows to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Leads and manages key projects that are critical to service line strategy, innovation, expansion, business performance, and solution road map efforts. Develops project plans, tracks progress and ensures timely execution.

Leads and manages service line quality structure, including registries. 

Develops and implements a set of metrics that allows for identification and measurement of the magnitude of business opportunities and growth (referrals, leakage within the St. Charles system, market share per service line subspecialties, out migration of our primary and secondary market areas.

Develops and recommends provider growth strategy cohorts as well as space solutions for provider growth strategy with accompanying funding priorities.

Develops and delivers concise and effective communication materials, including presentations, A3 reports, and updates, to inform stakeholders about key initiatives, progress, and outcomes.

Anticipates potential challenges and risks related to clinical and operational excellence and proposes mitigation strategies. Proactively manages issues to minimize disruptions.

Establishes metrics and tracking mechanisms to measure the success of service line (whether clinical or operational) excellence initiatives. Regularly reports on progress and outcomes to leadership.

Develops and implements a consistent set of tools and templates to ensure efficient and effective initiative execution.

Recommends a portfolio of initiatives to reduce the internal and external failure costs of poor quality across the service line continuum of patient care episodes and pathways.

Serves as subject matter expert on service line care pathways and surgical episodes/bundles.
