Director, Quality & Reliability Engineering - Remote
TE ConnectivityAbout the role
At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.
Job Overview
As the Director, Quality and Reliability Engineering, you will be responsible for defining and implementing strategies to ensure the optimal reliability of DDN products across their lifecycle—from concept through to production. This includes developing performance evaluation methods using testing, modeling, and historical data, with a focus on improving product reliability based on design, process elements, customer mission profiles, and applications.
You will work closely with cross-functional development teams and customers to build reliability plans, assess technical risks early in the design process, and drive data-based decision-making. This role requires creating and maintaining a comprehensive failure modes database and utilizing structured methodologies such as Design for Six Sigma and Robust Design principles to ensure DDN products meet long-term customer needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Design reliability into DDN products from concept through production phases.
- Collaborate with design and validation teams to develop innovative, test-driven solutions.
- Analyze customer and application requirements to determine optimal validation strategies.
- Implement accelerated testing methods (e.g., HALT, HAST) to evaluate design margins and reliability.
- Support research into failure mechanisms and conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) for materials, processes, and designs.
- Guide supplier selection and clearly communicate reliability expectations.
- Calculate and interpret key reliability metrics (MTTF, MTBUR) and identify associated risks or failures.
- Define and support mitigation and corrective action plans for high-risk failure modes.
- Lead customer communications and participate in design reviews as the reliability expert.
- Develop and maintain reliability guidelines, risk assessments, and reusable test/model databases.
- Act as the gatekeeper for reliability risks across all development phases.
- Partner with Quality and Failure Analysis teams to integrate lessons learned into future products.
What your background should look like:
Must Have:
- Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of experience in reliability engineering for electronics or mechatronics products.
- Deep knowledge of reliability estimation, statistical methods (Weibull, Chi-square, Bayes theorem), and analysis tools (FMEDA, FTA).
- ASQ Certification in Reliability or equivalent.
- Strong customer-facing experience, especially with automotive OEMs.
- Experience with mechatronic product reliability testing and statistical evaluation.
- Excellent team collaboration and knowledge-sharing mindset.
- Strong curiosity, reverse engineering thinking, and systems-level understanding.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to travel (~25%).
Preferred:
- PhD in a technical discipline.
- Certifications in DFSS, Six Sigma Black Belt, Shainin, or RED-X.
- Familiarity with industry standards (IATF 16949, EN 9100, ISO 9001, AEC-Q100).
- Expertise in electronics, signal processing, and Functional Safety (FuSa).
- Ability to develop custom reliability analysis tools.
