PURPOSE

Directs a team of co-workers engaged in lead the development, launch and lifecycle of our credit enhancement (CE) products.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management/Leadership

  • Manages and develops a team of co-workers with a diversity of skills and experience levels.  Provides work direction and monitors overall productivity and work quality. Ensures staff is knowledgeable and cross-trained, encourages self-development, and promotes team participation. 
  • Responsible for the selection, performance evaluation, and salary administration of co-workers.
  • Manages, leads, and supports others through the process of change both within the team and throughout the organization to achieve results related to MGIC’s corporate strategy.
  • Manages the operational and fiscal activities of the department including: staffing levels, budgets, operational controls and processes, and financial goals.
  • Analyzes business processes and issues. Manages departmental policies, procedures, and standards to enhance efficiency and work quality.
  • Develops solutions to problems with consideration for department and company goals and direction.
  • Develops and manages relationships between departments both inside and outside business unit.

Responsibilities specific to this role:

  • Managing credit enhancement (CE) product lines (flow MI, bulk MI, CRT) to meet market needs and maximize competitiveness
  • Development of new products/features, including new insurance lines and non-insurance CE solutions
  • Leading the collaboration of key domains (legal, pricing, risk, ops, etc.) to advance CE solutions business cases
  • Analysis (models) of CE value to various mortgage investors and the private-label residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) and other debt issuance markets, incorporating regulatory, rating agency, accounting, and capital markets considerations
  • Intel relating to regulatory matters, competitors, market trends, and potentials threats and opportunities (Note: A non-pricing, non-market share focus)
  • Development and management of bespoke product/program solutions consistent with our corporate objectives (simplify, optimization, value proposition) that balance risk, return and customer objectives (i.e., Customer Solutions Desk)
  • Ensuring corporate readiness across business domains for small- to large-scale industry changes/initiatives to maintain competitiveness (e.g, Change Execution Team – CHET, new Master Policy, new URLA, Credit Score Modernization)
  • Relationships with brokers and other industry participants pertaining to risk acquisition through CRT and other solutions
  • In coordination with Finance, Legal and Investor Relations, engaging rating agencies, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure a level playing field for our CE solutions
  • Contributing to new business opportunities initiatives, providing analytics, market analysis, and financial pro-formas, as needed
  • Supporting our risk-off activities, as needed, in coordination with Investor Relations and Business Intelligence

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE

Required Knowledge:    

  • Significant expertise in understanding complex financial concepts
  • Experience in mortgage credit enhancement (Experience in both MI and CRT a plus)
  • Strong financial and data analytical capabilities
  • Strong verbal communications skills

Experience:    More than 10 years of relevant experience
