Director, Pharmacy Operations and Compounding Services


 

What you will be doing:

The Director position will provide leadership and oversight for Premier Pharmacy Services initiatives that support members, suppliers, and internal business partners across pharmacy compounding, pharmacy operations, strategic sourcing, and value-added analytics. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Pharmacy compounding services, including insourcing, outsourcing, and supplier support

  • Strategic sourcing support for pharmacy operations categories, including automation, dispensing technology, and health-system pharmacy infrastructure

  • Development of member-facing operational toolkits, comparison frameworks, and savings calculators

  • Business intelligence and analytics support that enhances contract value realization and member decision-making

  • Supplier evaluations, operational assessments, and advisory support across pharmacy-related services

The role will serve as a key subject matter expert in pharmacy operations, pharmacy compounding, and pharmacy technology, with responsibility for translating operational, clinical, regulatory, and financial considerations into practical tools, strategies, and solutions that improve member value and contract utilization.

Responsibility #1 - 20%

  • Provide subject matter expertise for pharmacy operations and strategic sourcing categories across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and health-system settings

  • Support contracting and category strategies related to pharmacy technology, automation, dispensing infrastructure, and workflow optimization

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance contract value beyond price through operational insights, implementation support, and value-added resources

Responsibility #2 - 20%

  • Develop and maintain member-facing operational toolkits, comparison resources, and savings calculators that support pharmacy operations categories

  • Translate complex product, workflow, utilization, and cost differences across suppliers into practical decision-support tools for members

  • Support categories such as automated dispensing cabinets, carousel technology, outpatient dispensing automation, IV workflow technologies, cleanroom and compounding infrastructure, and related pharmacy operational solutions

Responsibility #3 - 20%

  • Lead and support pharmacy compounding services initiatives, including insourcing analyses, outsourcing strategies, supplier augmentation, stability-related programs, and operational support services

  • Provide subject matter expertise on sterile, nonsterile, and hazardous compounding practices, as well as associated operational and regulatory considerations

  • Support development of service offerings and resources that improve member readiness, efficiency, and performance across pharmacy compounding operations

Responsibility #4 - 20%

  • Conduct operational and supplier assessments, including onsite evaluations of outsourcing facilities, testing laboratories, technology vendors, and other pharmacy-related suppliers, as applicable

  • Develop summary reports, recommendations, and follow-up documentation based on operational reviews, audits, and supplier evaluations

  • Maintain supporting documentation, performance tracking, and internal resources to support ongoing supplier oversight and category strategy

Responsibility #5 - 20%

  • Oversee program performance, financial tracking, and service line reporting in applicable business systems such as SalesForce and Workday

  • Identify strategic initiatives that create new value for members, strengthen supplier engagement, and support development of new services or revenue streams

  • Collaborate across contracting, analytics, advisory, and supplier-facing teams to align resources, advance strategic priorities, and ensure execution of key initiatives

Work Experience:

Years of Applicable Experience - 7 or more years

Education:

Bachelors (Required)
