About the role

Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Director, Operations Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

 

As the senior operations line manager,  the Director, Operations Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) directs and leads safe operation of the SWPF during execution of processing activities. Plans, organizes, and directs short and long-range resource requirements and programs to continually improve Conduct of Operations and foster a Nuclear Safety Culture.  This includes integration of project activities, facility modification, major repairs, and the ongoing operation of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the safe and efficient operation of the SWPF in accordance with DSA and TSR, DOE orders and other Federal and State governmental regulatory requirements.
  • Manages, plans, prioritizes, and coordinates work to achieve processing goals and other mission critical objectives.
  • Manages shift operations to meet facility objectives. The team is comprised of multi-disciplined individuals (exempt and non-exempt).
  • Selects, trains, and qualifies operations personnel.
  • Develops and implements the facility mission, vision and principles consistent with SRMC and SWPF objectives.
  • Manages and integrates project and process improvements into the existing facilities without disruption of the production mission.
  • Implements facility specific operations performance goals and standards.
  • Fosters an environment in which all work is performed utilizing DOE/INPO Conduct of Operations Standards and HPI tools within a Safety Conscious Work Environment/Nuclear Safety Culture. 
  • Conducts investigations of operations abnormal events to identify and correct the root cause of the event and corrective actions and evaluate against ORPS criteria.
  • Manages the annual operating budget and ensures operations adhere to budgetary constraints.
  • Provides oversight and assessment of all operations. Reviews documentation, logs, and procedures to ensure standards and objectives are being met.
  • Coordinates interfaces between SWPF, Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF), Tank Farm, and Saltstone facilities. Interfaces with SWPF and SRMC management, external and internal customers, including DOE facility personnel and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science and progressive experience in a technical, engineering or operations field; or
  • Bachelor’s degree (non-engineering/science) and progressive experience in a technical, engineering or operations field. The individual must be capable of being granted an equivalency for education exception to DOE Order 426.2; or
  • High School Diploma/GED and progressive experience in a technical, engineering or operations field.  Experience must include a broad spectrum of work experiences gained through multi-sites/companies.  The individual must be capable of being granted an equivalency for education exception to DOE Order 426.2.
  • Minimum of 4 years working in a nuclear facility.

Additional Information:

  • Current qualification as a Shift Operations Manager within the hiring facility will be credited as one additional year of experience
  • This position may fall under DOE Order 426.2 and as such must meet the conditions of the order.  On an exception basis, equivalencies for education and experience may be applied

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience working in a nuclear facility
  • Solid understanding of facility DSA/TSRs, nuclear safety, Operations, Maintenance, Construction, Quality Assurance, Procedures, Planning/Scheduling, Investigative Techniques, Conduct of Operations and Nuclear Safety Culture is required
  • In depth knowledge of ORPS reporting criteria, Radiological Control practices and requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including previous direct people management
  • Project management experience
  • Broad understanding of environmental laws and regulations, DOE orders and knowledge of SRMC company policies
