Operations Director
The Operations Director is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective operations of our warehouse distribution and production teams. This position is pivotal in ensuring that our supply chain and production processes are optimized to meet customer demands, maintain high-quality standards, and achieve business objectives. Through effective leadership, the individual will drive continuous improvement in operating performance to deliver results and achieve established KPIs. The Operations Director will also manage an international team, including our operations in Lensahn, Germany, ensuring alignment and synergy across all sites.
What you will do as an Operations Director
- Responsible for warehouse and production operations strategy for Eden Prairie and Lensahn, Germany. Ensuring alignment across all sites.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners, suppliers and customers.
- Ensure the operations have the proper organizational structure and talent to support the company's strategic and tactical goals. Encourage employee education and advancement within the Company.
- Provide leadership and performance expectations, measurement, and accountability consistent with corporate objectives. Provide the leadership team with the necessary coaching and mentoring to develop both technical and managerial skills
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in warehouse and production operations.
- Promote a safe work environment consistent with OSHA, and other applicable standards. Enforce that all potential or real hazards and injuries are reported, work practices are properly followed, all appropriate PPE is used, and all applicable safety training is received.
- Resolve Employee issues through consistent and fair application of Company policies. Establish and maintain rapport with Employees and encourage open communications as well as positive Employee relations to ensure a highly motivated workforce that is dedicated to and supportive of Company objectives.
- Control activities and expenditures to ensure operating within established budgets.
- Drive continuous improvement activities by developing, supervising, and evaluating Lean strategies; apply them while directing all warehouse/production efforts to improve processes and working methods continuously.
- Communicate the progress and status of the facility's operations to corporate management. Serve as liaison between the facility and the other STERIS facilities and business groups.
- Develop short and long-term objectives such as capital and workforce needs and administer routine operating functions, approvals, reports, and metrics.
- Establish, monitor, direct, and achieve agreed-upon business metrics, goals, and objectives. Taking corrective actions to ensure all objectives are met and striving for year-over-year improvements in KPIs.
- Meeting financial goals and performance specific to inventory management, minimize manufacturing variances, achieve inventory reduction targets, manage obsolesce.
- Oversee facility repairs, maintenance, and upgrades as needed to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive working environment.
- Other location-specific responsibilities that may be assigned.
Experience, skills, and abilities needed
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related required. MBA is preferred.
- 10 + years of experience in manufacturing/distribution operations and procedures.
- 5 + years of manufacturing/distribution management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 5 + years lean experience and knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems and other relevant software.
- Thorough understanding of general practices and operations of Human Resources, Finance, Materials Management and Quality System requirements.
- Medical device industry experience preferred
- Proven experience managing international teams and multi-site operations preferred.
