Job Description

In this role, you will be a critical member of the Legal team, responsible for the development and implementation of a robust risk management strategy tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of the apparel retail sector and this exciting company. This role requires a visionary leader with a strong background in risk management, a keen understanding of the retail landscape, and the ability to drive proactive risk mitigation initiatives. You will develop, recommend, implement and maintain actions that identify, evaluate, mitigate, control, report and govern Vuori’s operational and strategic risks. You will partner with business leaders across the organization in areas such as Finance, IT, Information Security, Operations, People & Culture, Legal, etc. to assess diverse business activities that could threaten the safety, security, assets, reputation, objectives and success of the organization.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assemble and lead a cross-functional group of stakeholders to develop, execute and evolve the company's enterprise risk management strategy, ensuring that it aligns with the company’s business objectives as it continues to grow and scale. 
  • Identify, assess, and prioritize risks associated with the clothing retail industry, including supply chain disruptions, market fluctuations, and regulatory changes. 
  • Implement effective risk mitigation measures to protect the company against potential threats to its operations, reputation, and financial stability. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish, enforce and report on the effectiveness of risk controls through the organization. 
  • Maintain and propose changes to the risk governance, including governance documentation, and risk tolerance and appetite approach. 
  • Develop a risk management culture across the business to support the implementation and effective operation of risk management. 
  • Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies comply with applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives. 
  • Identify regulatory, legislative, and industry specific compliance requirements and define controls that can be used to meet those requirements. 
  • Evaluate and provide advice related to the company’s insurance strategies to optimize coverage and cost-effectiveness, ensuring adequate coverage for identified risks within the risk management framework. 
  • Evaluate and provide advice with respect to the company’s insurance claims administration and records maintenance. 
  • Ensure compliance with insurance and risk management policies including assisting the company with hiring third party consultants for professional support. 
  • Provide consultation and technical advice related to insurance and risk management matters and address risk management questions and issues that arise from various internal and external stakeholders. 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Risk Management, ideally with substantial experience working for a global retail organization, or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities  
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRM, ARM, CPCU) are preferred 
  • Bachelor's degree or master’s degree in risk management, business administration, or a related field is preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of risk management principles, techniques, and frameworks 
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies and programs 
  • In-depth knowledge of clothing retail industry risks, including supply chain dynamics, market trends, and regulatory landscape 
  • Claims management training is preferred 
  • Demonstrated project management experience 
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate diverse cross-functional teams without having direct authority 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make informed decisions 
  • Ability to handle projects effectively and efficiently and remain adaptable and comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrated emotional
