The Director of OTTAVA Software will lead their team in the software design, development, and documentation to build a scalable robotic surgical business impacting millions of patients and expanding the capabilities of physicians globally.
At Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions, we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers’ abilities and improve diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times for patients. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™) and Digital Solutions. This director will be a key technical and strategic leader on one of the most exciting programs in J&J and in healthcare in general! The candidate must bring a strong blend of technical ability and people leadership to bear on this critical role. They must also balance depth in software development with a passionate focus on understanding and meeting the needs of clinicians and operating room staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and motivate a global software development team of over 55 managers and individual contributors focused on graphical user interfaces, applications, real-time software, and firmware
Establish team initiatives to achieve program goals and improve functional excellence in areas including data engineering and device software development related to graphical user interfaces, robotics and controls, firmware, and cybersecurity
Demonstrate technical leadership across product software development, ensuring the stability, robustness, and feature set of the OTTAVA software
Define, and communicate, and implement the vision for the mid- to long-term strategic and technical roadmap of the team
Mentor senior managers, managers, and individual contributors
Maintain functional alignment within R&D leadership and partner organizations (Quality, Regulatory, Commercial) to improve process and define feature road maps
Lead in innovation and AI-supported development
Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
Experience and Skills:
Required:
A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience is required
10+ years professional experience in software development, and/or data platforms, or similar, is required
5+ years experience with hands-on technical leadership and people management is required
Demonstrated ability to deliver results on time within constraints by creatively adapting processes and using resources is required
Experience with medical devices from concept to delivery is required
Experience with documentation for medical device and non-medical device software is required
