SUMMARY
The Director of Service Engineering provides vision, leadership, and resources as a primary coordinator of technical engineering services supporting Service Operations (LTSA), and Service Execution (Field Service) teams for Mitsubishi Power Americas Power Generation Services (PGS) business. Responsibility is for the safety, quality of products & services provided, and people development planning to meet all business objectives identified as part of Jikei & annual budget planning processes.
The successful candidate will possess significant domain expertise with regard to operation, maintenance, service, and repair of heavy-duty Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Auxiliaries, and BOP equipment. Technical depth should be balanced with a passion for leadership and people development; leveraging a ONE TEAM mentality to drive technical, operational, and organizational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical, operational, and organizational leadership to reporting managers and individual contributors.
- Collaborate with Engineering leadership on ONE TEAM approach to promote positive culture and working atmosphere built on technical foundation of certification and task management. Drive people development growth built on behavioral foundation of Individual Development Plans, Succession planning, and Leadership development.
- Collaborate across the PGS organization with Service Operations, Service Execution, and Product Line Management to improve Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability through identification and mitigation of Fleet Risks.
- Drive Root Cause and Corrective Action for parts failures, non-conformances, and operational issues across the fleet. Inspire confidence and build trust by demonstrating technical excellence, communicating transparently, and acting with a level of urgency expected by Mitsubishi Power Americas customers.
- Ensure all RCCA’s and lessons learned followed 8D process so as to feed outputs back into respective functional production systems.
- Act as primary technical owner of service criteria applied by Field Service personnel for dispositioning as found condition of components. Support Field Service with timely disposition of non-conformances encountered during outage execution.
- Drive risk assessment; maintain accountability for informing the organization of technical risks, minimizing forced outages and parts fallout costs.
- Provide technical guidance across the organization through timely disposition of Engineering Service Requests.
- Maintain strong relationships with external customers through consistent, transparent, and professional communication.
- Positively interface with all necessary departments inside MHI Engineering to define and obtain approval for root cause determination and department initiatives.
- Drive awareness of Mitsubishi Power Americas fleet experience through New Generation Systems (NGS) and global counterparts in Japan with focus on improving overall product lifecycle cost.
- Manage the work priorities and resource allocations (personnel, budget) for the respective engineering groups assigned to ensure that all business objectives are achieved using proper scheduling views in P6, Windchill tasks, etc.
- Comply with all processes required to output highest first time quality and on-time to commit date possible and maintain current & historically performance;
- Positively interface with all internal teams (project, procurement, manufacturing , field service, etc) to achieve all programs goals, including both internal and external deliverables;
- Develop staffing and employment development plans of engineering personnel under their direct supervision including required capacity documentation & skillset matrix;
- Support sales and marketing efforts for Mitsubishi and non-Mitsubishi equipment through technical documents, technical presentations and customer meetings;
- Support technical leadership of industry meetings including insurance and lender meetings, user conferences, and industry conferences (PowerGen, ASME Turbo Expo, etc.);
- Ensure fleet experience and feedback is incorporated into design reviews, design meetings, and communicated to the appropriate engineering design personnel;
- Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts;
- Some overnight travel (up to 25%) by land and/or air with some trips lasting two or more weeks.
