This position will oversee and direct a teams of claim specialists with responsibility for the resolution of high exposure and complex claims . This position will report to the Senior Director and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.

Job Description
- Oversee and supervise a team of experienced examiners handling public company D&O matters and large financial institution claims.
- Monitor and manage the team's workload using data and analytics.
- Analyze and optimize the team's processes and procedures, identifying and implementing best practices and solutions to improve efficiency and quality.
- Coordinate and communicate with other managers and stakeholders to align the team's operations with other teams within the claims department.
- Confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.
- Direct and monitor assignments of new loss activity for claims.
- Review and approve correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss Reports.
- Review and approve reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling specialist.
- Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior Management.
- Participate in review and discussion of large loss activity in the executive liability book with interested stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial, Executive Management).
- Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectives.
- Assess and evaluate individual specialist and team performance, provide feedback and develop training needs.
- Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information.
- Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needs.
- Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners.
- Participate in special projects as requested.
- Travel to other Markel offices and conferences as required.
- Active partnership with internal stakeholders (Senior Claims Leadership, Underwriting, PL, Actuarial) on claims, litigation developments, coverage trends, reserve movements and loss mitigation efforts, with ability to address both micro and macro developments.
- Analyze and provide guidance on resolution of high exposure claims.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- JD or advanced degree, a plus
- Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
- Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or
- I-Lead or other Management Training
- Minimum of 10 years of claims experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior claims management experience preferred
- Experience in managing public company d&o claims or large account FI claims preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrates strong decision-making skills and problem solving techniques
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
- Proven ability to build and develop strong working relationships and establish a high level of credibility across functional and lines of business
- Demonstrates ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast paced, high volume, and rapidly changing environment
- Strong desire for continuous improvement
