As the Director, Engineering, you will provide leadership in both program and project management, leveraging your engineering skillsets to drive processes and deployment through planning and execution. What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Handle and develop Engineering and Project Management staff; provide the expertise to support a diverse group of technical professionals
  • Lead a team of Industrial Engineers, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Develops tactical strategies and leads team through project lifecycle to design distribution centers, including high volume facilities, ensuring timely project delivery, cost control and customer satisfaction
  • Work closely with various internal departments such as Facilities, Automation & Innovation, Solutions, PMO, Implementation, Business Development, Operations, Finance, Real Estate, IT, and HR to ensure cohesive project execution and optimal customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with international teams to ensure consistency and leverage best practices across regions.
  • Oversee relationships with key vendors and partners, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness in the engineering solutions provided.
  • Participate in customer presentations and meetings, providing technical insights and engineering expertise to support business development efforts.
  • Writes equipment specifications and obtains quotes for material handling equipment / automation and storage media.  Works with procurement to issue purchase orders.
  • Supports the identification and functional design of new WMS and interface requirements.
  • Other duties as required and assigned

What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 7 years of engineering and leadership experience
  • Lean methodology and AutoCAD experience
  • Experience directing root cause analysis activities, supporting process development and documentation

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or master’s degree
  • Availability to travel domestically up to 40% of the time
  • 7 years of engineering project management leadership experience, including field expertise 
  • 10 years of engineering leadership or operational experience in a manufacturing, distribution or warehousing environment
  • The ability to identify and specify the use of automation where justified
  • Solid interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to partner with each department and facility to streamline, improve and sustain processes with a primary focus on safety, quality, delivery and cost
