Summary/Objective
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering with experience in Agency Compliance specifically for the development and manufacturing of equipment used in the food service industry. The position reports to the VP of Engineering and will oversee the development, implementation, and management of compliance activities, programs and policies to ensure that the manufacturing processes, products, and facilities comply with all applicable regulations, laws, and standards for Lancer’s global portfolio of products.
· Manage the mechanical engineering team, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of new products and product extensions.
· Plan and organize development activities to ensure project specifications and design requirements are met and completed on schedule.
· Review, update and execute stage gate activities, DFMEA, tolerance and design specific analysis.
· Develop concepts, tradeoff analysis and detailed engineering project plans.
· Develop a strategy and execute a comprehensive compliance plan assuring product compliance is met across the product line for domestic and international sales.
· Collaborate and motivate teams ensure design acceptance and regulatory compliance of new products and product variations.
Essential Functions
· Manage and mentor Mechanical Engineering team, for new product development providing guidance to ensure high performance.
· Support sales and the business on identifying and achieving product development and compliance regulations.
· Work closely with legal, operations, quality, and safety teams to ensure regulatory requirements are incorporated into manufacturing processes.
· Identify compliance risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, quality assurance) to ensure risk revisions.
· Foster a culture of collaboration across the organization by ensuring that all employees understand their role effectively contribute to new product development.
· Coordinate internal and external audits of manufacturing facilities.
· Ensure timely and accurate reporting to regulatory agencies.
· Provide quarterly reports for executive leadership on projects status, compliance status, and risks.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Proven ability to effectively direct and manage a team to provide development and compliance approvals for all products to enable development, sales and support.
· Ability to analyze complex regulations and translate them into actionable compliance strategies.
· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the regulatory environment In-depth knowledge of UL, IEC, NSF, EC 1935/2004, RoHS, PFAS, and TSCA regulations.
· Good command and understanding or working knowledge of regulatory frameworks, general regulatory and internal control requirements as well as industry knowledge in all aspects of compliance.
· Technically competent in the design and manufacturing of metal, stamped, casted, molded, 3D printed products integrated with electronics and fluid controls.
· Ability to multitask, reprioritize and respond to urgent request.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
· Minimum of 15 years of experience in design and manufacturing of equipment
· Minimum of 8 years of experience in a leadership role obtaining and maintaining compliance approvals for food service equipment
· Experience leading audits and managing compliance programs.
· Experience managing outside compliance agencies and testing
· Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in compliance management software and tools.
· Experience in quality processes and PMP certification a plus
· Knowledge / experience working with ERP and PLM software
