POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Distribution Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless movement of products through one of our high-volume distribution centers, from receipt to shipment. This role is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the operation throughout the four walls of our ship center, including ownership of inventory management, product flow, and team leadership. Leveraging a blend of operational expertise, analytical acumen, and leadership skills, this role drives efficient product movement while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize supply chain performance.

This position is instrumental in executing broader supply chain and business strategies, delivering world class service and cost efficiency. Success in this role requires building a high-performing, agile, and adaptable team capable of high-level execution and the flexibility to meet evolving business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Excellence

  • Responsible for full oversight of daily operations including the consistent delivery of key metrics tied to staffing, service, cost and quality
  • Execute against store service initiatives and actively identify new opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain cost controls for all components of the ship center budget to meet or exceed financial targets
  • Achieve year over year productivity improvements that meet or exceed budget expectations
  • Accelerate speed of product through the facility to reduce overall lead times
  • Partner cross functionally with both internal and external partners to drive product flow efficiencies that support long term financial planning
  • Meet or exceed cost and service targets for ecommerce order processing (in buildings with ecommerce operations)

People Leadership

  • Responsible for cultivating and building leadership capability amongst Operations Leadership in the support of the Distribution organizations long term people strategies
  • Collaborate with local HR teams to build daily staffing plans, including developing strategic hiring initiatives during peak season to more than double headcount
  • Consistently work to improve retention and attraction rates for hourly ship crew, targeting to retain crew above the national turnover average for warehousing
  • Foster a workplace culture that balances accountability, and fun, to drive team performance and deliver results

Safety and Compliance

  • Establish a culture of accountability and safety throughout the building, ensuring it remains a core operational focus.
  • Partner with HR and EH&S Leadership to drive accountability and the development of new practices and policies as needed
  • Achieve and maintain a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of less than 2.0 per year, while also ensuring OSHA and DART rates align with key targets
  • Ensure crew members are adhering to all regulatory and compliance requirements as determined by best practices across the network

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a retail supply chain environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience executing in a high growth retail environment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting and competing priorities
  • Strong people skills, self-motivated and well-organized
  • Demonstrated people leadership, team building and team development capabilities
  • Ability to communicate and influence cross functionally throughout the business and within the facility in partnership with hourly crew members and cross functional peers
