About the role

POSITION TITLE: Director, Data Science and Analytics

Position Summary:

We’re looking for a data science and analytics leader to drive actionable insights and scalable reporting across the mortgage lifecycle—from acquisition to servicing. In this hands-on role, you’ll lead the development of executive dashboards and data pipelines for reporting/analytics/operations, and build predictive and analytical models that support strategic decision-making. You’ll manage a global team of analysts and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure analytics are aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.  Key to success in this role is a deep understanding of the mortgage origination industry and having a relationship oriented partnership style with the business.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Design and implement predictive models, reporting pipelines, and statistical techniques across key mortgage workflows—such as risk scoring, churn prediction, segmentation, and structured document processing where applicable—to improve metrics like Conversion Rate, Delinquency Rate, and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners (Product, Marketing, Engineering, Finance, and executive leadership) to identify opportunities for automation and insight generation using advanced analytics.
  • Translate business problems into well-scoped analytics and modeling initiatives, including executive reporting and performance dashboards.
  • Drive the development of automated reporting systems and decision-support tools.
  • Build robust data pipelines and dashboards in collaboration with data engineering, ensuring scalability, monitoring, and model governance in production environments.
  • Contribute to a culture of excellence by publishing internal best practices, conducting peer reviews, and mentoring early- and middle-career data practitioners.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA) and model auditability, particularly in financial and regulatory-sensitive applications.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD preferred) in engineering/math/statistics/economics, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 (or 7, post-PhD )years of experience required, ideally in mortgage, fintech, or financial services
  • Strong analytical and business decision making skills, with experience influencing top-level leaders in high-stakes strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business objectives into technical modeling goals and measurable success metrics.
  • Experience setting requirements and influencing the development of models for fraud detection, CLV estimation, or risk scoring; experience with compliance automation or underwriting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with modern ML Ops practices (data/model versioning, CI/CD, performance monitoring, and bias detection).
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, privacy, and auditability in model development (e.g., ECOA, RESPA, CFPB regulations). [is this something that can be taught – is a nice to have versus critical?]
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including ability to present complex results with clarity.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel, experience with any of the modern visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); ability to quickly learn basic Python/SAS skills.

Training / Licensing Requirements:

  • Must pass the Company’s Background Screening process prior to beginning employment. Additionally, as a condition of employment, you may be required to pass client-specific background check requirements or Federal/State licensing requirements, if applicable.

The salary range for this position is expected to be $170,000 – $190,000 per year, depending on geographic location, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Bonus based
