The Director of Credit Risk Operations will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the operational aspects of Marqeta’s credit programs. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of credit solutions to our customers. The successful candidate will have a strong background in credit risk operations, collections. fraud process optimization, and team leadership within the fintech or financial services industry.

Responsibilities:
- Fraud Prevention: Lead investigations into major fraud cases, and ensure appropriate actions are taken to mitigate losses and prevent recurrence.
- Collections: Establish and oversee the credit card collections program and implement efficient collections methods to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve credit program operations while mitigating risk.
- Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce quality assurance standards and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance throughout the credit lifecycle.
- Risk Management: Collaborate with risk management and compliance teams to mitigate operational risks and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Customer/Bank Collaboration: Represent Marqeta’s credit operations to our customers and bank partners and demonstrate Marqeta’s ability to support their credit programs.
- Product Development: Support the Credit Product and Technology teams by identifying elements and/or issues during product development that require oversight.
- Risk Monitoring and Reporting: Implement robust monitoring processes to track credit exposures, delinquencies, and portfolio quality, and prepare regular reports for senior management and regulatory authorities.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Implement robust monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and service level agreements (SLAs). Provide regular updates to senior management on operational performance and initiatives.
- Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of credit operations professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS Finance) preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in credit risk management in the financial services or fintech industry, with a track record of progressive leadership and achievement.
- 3+ years in establishing or managing fraud risk operations for credit card programs.
- 3+ years of implementing or managing collections with a focus on overseeing a large-scale full lifecycle collections platform.
- Deep expertise in credit risk principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, with a focus on credit card operations practices.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in fraud detection and prevention in the credit card industry.
- Experience in working with different card types and transaction types.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical modeling, data analysis, and risk assessment techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
