Job Description
Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Director of Cost Management to lead and develop a team of Cost Managers and oversee the delivery of cost management services for large-scale construction programs. This individual will be responsible for driving commercial and financial performance, managing client relationships, providing strategic leadership to project teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of cost management services. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with strong technical, operational, and business development capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Strong leadership skills with experience leading cost management teams and ensuring delivery against key accountabilities.
- Lead client communications and provide oversight of cost management service delivery.
- Lead research related to construction market conditions and industry trends.
- Produce thought leadership reports and market insights.
- Lead the strategic and operational management of Cost Management Services, including resource planning, financial management, business development, and staff development.
- Set clear goals and direction for the team in alignment with business objectives.
- Grow and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of learning, respect, and inclusion.
- Ensure lessons learned and key project information are captured and shared across the business.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and participate in ISO audits.
- Develop risk mitigation plans, KPIs, management controls, and performance measures aligned with company goals.
- Coordinate and represent the office during internal and external audits.
- Develop a strong understanding of the market, act as a brand ambassador, and build relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Identify and pursue cross-selling and growth opportunities.
- Participate in leadership meetings and deliver presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Track project budgets, forecasts, change management, revenue, margin performance, and resource requirements across multiple commissions.
- Oversee cost planning, cost controls, forecasting, reporting, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support procurement strategies, bid evaluations, and value engineering initiatives to optimize project outcomes.
- Prepare proposals and RFP responses for new opportunities.
- Represent the business at industry, networking, and client events.
- Support mentorship, career development, and succession planning initiatives.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to support recruiting, workforce planning, and future resource needs.
- Promote a collaborative one-business culture focused on delivering successful outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
- SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role and are to be adhered to where applicable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- 12+ years of cost management, quantity surveying, or commercial management experience.
- 2+ years leading cost management teams within a consulting environment.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience.
- Proven success delivering cost management services on complex construction projects.
- Strong business development and client relationship management skills.
- Experience supporting large-scale capital projects across sectors such as industrial manufacturing, advanced technology, data centers, life sciences, commercial real estate, or similar market
