Director, Corporate Communications - Global Payment Network

The full-spectrum Capital One Enterprise Communications team is responsible for all aspects of the company’s communications strategy and execution in order to propel business imperatives while promoting and protecting the reputation of Capital One. Our purview includes corporate and brand media relations, issues and reputation management, financial communications, and associate communications, as well as a full-service content and creative storytelling team that brings the story of Capital One and Discover to life on internal and external channels.  We are communicators, writers, creative directors and multimedia experts, and we are all storytellers.  As a central team within Global Enterprise Affairs, we are strategic counselors to our partners throughout the enterprise, sitting at the intersection of value creation and risk mitigation. We help drive business initiatives forward while enhancing the reputation of Capital One and Discover.

We are seeking talented individuals to join our growing Communications team. This position requires exceptional judgment, an ability to build relationships in a highly matrixed environment, and a sustained focus on delivering results.  Creative problem-solving, an ability to read the data and the room, and a passion for storytelling are all critical to success in this role.  Empathy, teamwork and a sense of humor are essential.  

About the Role:
As the Director, Global Payments Network Communications, you will lead strategic external communications initiatives to advance the Discover Network’s reputation, manage issues, and support key business objectives. You’ll manage high-impact programs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with internal and external partners to deliver effective media relations, corporate storytelling and client services strategies.

This position requires exceptional leadership, judgment, teamwork, and results focus. An open mind and a passion for finding creative new ways to solve problems and deliver results are essential to the success of this role. 
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to internal leaders and partners on external communications initiatives.

  • Lead planning and execution of data-backed, communications campaigns aligned with enterprise and line-of-business priorities.

  • Partner with the issues and crisis communications team to support critical messaging needs for Network participants.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Partner with global teams to drive media relations efforts to secure visibility in priority outlets.

  • Correspond cross-functionally to maintain various Discover Network fact sheets and corporate information.

  • Leverage data to evaluate results, extract insights and optimize future programs

  • Stay informed about industry trends to inform and enhance communication strategies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 8 years of communications experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of experience in public relations or communications, the financial services or technology industries.

  • 1+ years of experience working with global payment networks

  • Experience managing international communication strategies 

  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous communication initiatives

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $190,300 - $217,200 for Director, Communications


 

Plano, TX: $173,000 - $197,400 for Director, Communications
