Classification Summary:
Responsible for leading university-wide efforts to prevent, address, and educate the campus community about hazing behaviors and their consequences. The Director provides oversight of compliance, training, and intervention programs related to hazing prevention, working closely with the Office of Institutional Equity, athletics, Greek Life, student organizations, and other key campus stakeholders. This position ensures that policies, procedures, and best practices align with legal and institutional mandates to foster a safe and inclusive environment for all students. As a member of the Student Conduct & Community Standards team, the Director contributes to, supports, and promotes events, activities, and experiences that enhance the student life experience.

Classification Standard Duties:
Develop and implement comprehensive hazing prevention education for students, faculty, and staff, focusing on risk reduction, harm prevention, and ethical decision-making. Coordinate mandatory anti-hazing training for high-risk student groups. Oversee the development of workshops, online modules, and awareness campaigns in collaboration with campus partners. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies related to hazing/student conduct. Serve as the primary resource for hazing-related inquiries, reports, and investigations. Manage the tracking/reporting of hazing incidents in compliance with laws. Oversee the implementation of a centralized hazing incident database. Collaborate with university police, legal counsel, and student conduct to address reports of hazing and enforce accountability. Serve as a liaison to the New Mexico State Legislature and national hazing prevention organizations to advocate for best practices in hazing prevention. Partner with stakeholders to develop proactive intervention strategies. Work closely with community leaders to promote a culture of shared responsibility and bystander intervention. Represent the university at conferences. Review and recommend revisions to university. Lead the university’s Hazing Prevention Task Force, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and legal obligations. Develop sanctions and restorative justice approaches for those found responsible for hazing. Assist in crisis response and risk management strategies to prevent and mitigate hazing-related harm. Maintain accurate records of all hazing prevention programs, investigations, and compliance initiatives. Oversee budgetary resources allocated to hazing prevention efforts. Provide reports and recommendations to university leadership on trends and best practices. Serve on relevant university committees, including the Behavioral Intervention Team and Student Conduct Review Board. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Education- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Law, or a related field. Experience- Three (3) years of professional work experience in student conduct, compliance, risk management, or student affairs, with specific knowledge of hazing prevention strategies. Equivalency- Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of professional work experience in student conduct, compliance, risk management, or student affairs – to include significant experience working with higher ed law cases, higher ed fraternity/soro
