Position Summary

The Flexible Manufacturing Engineer will support the development of a catalog of technologies and solutions to be applied in manufacturing with a focus on delivering a reduction in Total Delivered Cost of product, this could be through quality, safety and/or efficiency improvements.  This role is responsible to drive flexible manufacturing initiatives through software and automation solutions in the manufacturing environment with a focus on robotics, cobotics and autonomous vehicles but could include other technologies.  This individual must also collaboratively troubleshoot, develop, and maintain a standard for these solutions.  A strategic approach and use of Industry standards should be applied with a focus on building re-useable, scalable models and work packages.


• Lead efforts from ideation to basic design (80%) and provide consultation in detailed design phase for the implementation of flexible manufacturing automation, automated guided vehicles, robots and cobots.
• Develop feasibility studies and business cases independently and/or with a team to identify areas of opportunity for flexible manufacturing automation, autonomous vehicles, robots and cobots.
• Serve as a consultant to the business regarding addressing process pains and inefficiencies through innovative designs, data analysis, and process assessments. Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities.
• Performs evaluations of technology standards, tools/products and solutions to make rational design decisions from both a business and technical perspective.
• Oversee integration strategy of each solution and participate in project management milestone gate phase assessments.
• Work with the engineering and business community to ensure alignment with the current and future state of manufacturing processes and designs.
• Drive vendor selection process and provide recommendations for investment in technology solutions, supported by appropriate ROI, total cost of ownership, and/or cost benefit analyses.
• Develop skill matrix and competency building plans for technical staff to sustainably maintain and operate new technologies.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field preferred. Relevant experience considered.

 

EXPERIENCE:
• 7+ years with engineering design and implementation
• 5+ years with robots, cobots and/or autonomous vehicles.
• Experience in CPG manufacturing and FDA regulations in the industry is preferred.
