The Dietetic Technician provides direct nutritional care to adult inpatient populations at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus under the guidance of a registered dietitian. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members including nurses, physicians, and food service staff to support patient nutrition needs, ensure accurate meal delivery, and monitor ongoing nutrition care. This role involves direct patient interaction and plays a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am to 4:30pm or 7:30am to 4:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide patient care using medical nutrition therapy for moderate/low-risk populations under a registered dietitian.
- Implement and communicate nutrition care plans with the healthcare team.
- Maintain documentation, follow-up systems, and diet/order entry records.
- Serve as a liaison between food service staff and clinical/dietitian teams.
- Ensure patient meals comply with prescribed diets; communicates needed diet changes.
- Manage menu entry and processes diet/nourishment updates.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives, committees, and projects.
- Support dietetic internship programs as a preceptor.
- Track productivity and completes required reports.
- Participate in professional development, rounds, conferences, and research.
- Use clinical and dietetic software to support patient care and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Maintain, update, and audit department systems and nutrition registry data.
- Perform nutrition analysis, data coding, validation checks, and error correction.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nutrition or related field
- OR Associate's Degree in Dietetic Technology
- Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) required within 6 months of hire
- After selection and placement in the job, minimum three month's on-the-job training required, including classroom work, assignments, various shifts and rotation to various patient care areas
- Maintains ongoing continuing education in nutrition-related practice areas
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient in the use of electronic communication tools
- Effectively follows direction and works independently with minimal supervision in an interdisciplinary environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills; collaborates effectively, communicates issues clearly,
