Job Description:
This role is vital to the effective daily operations of the Commission, helping to enhance the organization’s efficiency and public outreach efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to serving the African American community in Nebraska.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY ROLE EXPECTED TO LAST UNTIL 4/01/2025
Job Duties:
Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and staff, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and coordinating travel arrangements.
Serve as the first point of contact for phone and email inquiries, directing them to the appropriate department or individual.
Maintain office files, records, and databases, ensuring they are organized and up to date.
Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documents as requested.
Coordinate and support special events, community outreach initiatives, and meetings, including preparing materials and communicating with attendees.
Manage office supplies and equipment inventory, ensuring that all necessary materials are ordered and available.
Draft and proofread correspondence, meeting agendas, and minutes.
Process expense reports and invoices.
Support public relations and communications efforts, including posting updates to the Commission’s social media and website.
Assist in maintaining relationships with key community leaders including government officials and partner organizations.
Takes initiative on projects and office needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in public or business administration, accounting, or any discipline related to the work assigned. One year of experience in administrative, business management or technical support work including collecting and interpreting statistical, financial, program, or administrative data; or interpreting laws, rules, regulations, and processes. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience in an administrative or office support role, preferably in a government or nonprofit organization.
Experience working with diverse populations, especially within the African American community.
Familiarity with bookkeeping software or financial tracking systems is a plus.
Experience managing social media accounts.
Other: Regular and Reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of or experience with public sector organizations or state government.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with office technology.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Strong communication skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
