Work Schedule: Flexible working hours dependent on student choice and availability. Supervisor and work site availability is 8-5 Mon-Fri, as needed. The job responsibilities can mostly be accomplished remotely.

Desired Length of Employment:  8/4/2024 – 5/10/2025

Pay Rate: $11.00

Key Components:

This position is reserved for Federal Work Study (FWS) students only. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented work-study student to assist with internal data processing and visualization. This role is ideal for a student studying data science, public health, biology, sociology, or a related field who wants hands-on experience using data to support community health and animal welfare.
Maintain and update internal datasets tracking clinic services (e.g., surgeries, wellness visits, community outreach)

  • In a student employee capacity, may assist in working with external community service partners.
  • Clean and organize data for accuracy and consistency
  • Create charts, dashboards, and visual reports to help staff monitor trends and identify areas for improvement
  • Support the development of monthly or quarterly internal performance summaries
  • Assist staff in using data for planning and decision-making

Acquired Skills: This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience in how data is used within a nonprofit clinic setting to support service delivery, planning, and community impact. The student will develop skills in data cleaning, organization, and visualization, while also building portfolio-ready materials that demonstrate their ability to translate raw information into actionable insights. Working alongside a dedicated team, the student will see firsthand how data helps improve operations and outcomes in animal welfare and public health. This is a chance to contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven organization while strengthening both technical and professional skills.

Job Description:

  • Work with local organization(s) or community partners
  • Interest in public health, community service, topics of generational poverty, systems of racial inequality, social justice, human or animal health, collective community impact, or animal welfare.
  • Utilize available resources to perform duties accordingly  
  • Provide excellent customer service as a representative of the University
  • Must be awarded Work-Study through Financial Aid.
  • Must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Outstanding professional and friendly demeanor and excellent customer service.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to exercise discretion.
  • Proactive approach to work and conflict resolution.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet tools
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Excel charts, Google Data Studio, Tableau, or Power BI) is a plus
  • Google Suite experience.
  • Must be organized, disciplined, dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and flexible.
  • May assist with planning, organizing, and implementing community services or programs
  • May assist with various projects, activities or tasks related to community projects
  • May contribute to developing and maintaining good relationships with internal and external partners
  • May serve as a source to provide information about resources and assistance related to community program(s) or service(s)
  • May serve to enhance outreach for the greater Waco community 
  • Ensure confidentiality of all pertinent information
  • May prepare and present information in a group or workshop setting
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission  
  • Ability to comply with University policies  
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
