GENERAL FUNCTION:  Responsible for facilitating, coordinating, reviewing and executing requisite activities relating to the opening and ongoing maintenance of accounts in the Wealth and Asset Management (W&AM) Division. Performs critical control functions, making sure accounts are onboarded and maintained in an efficient and accurate manner, ensuring positive first impressions and ongoing awesome client experiences. Focused on standard account types opened and maintained in the Personal Trust and Fiduciary Services (IM&T) and/or Fifth Third Institutional Services (FTIS) areas.  W&AM Account Opening & Maintenance Specialist Is are industry professionals responsible for following established guidelines and quickly identifying and resolving problems, ultimately adding value to the client experience while minimizing risk.

The position is responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating

concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the

right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer

experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying,

assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a control point for the IM&T and/or FTIS line of business, ensuring all requirements for account opening and maintenance requests have been met prior to establishing accounts or changing coding in the systems. 
  • Responsible for completing pre-opening account risk reviews, setting up IM&T and/or FTIS accounts and the individuals or entities associated with the accounts, reviewing ongoing account maintenance, and account change requests.
  • Learn, comprehend and be able to facilitate the rationale of detailed policies and procedures of the W&AM division. 
  • Develops and maintains a knowledge base of the standard account types offered within IM&T or FTIS.  Serves as a key contact for the line of business in terms of understanding account set up requirements, CIP and Due Diligence requirements, required approvals, fee structures and system coding requirements. 
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with a wide variety of business partners.
  • Develops an understanding of the workflow process and demonstrates an understanding of all systems involved.
  • Builds understanding of the firm’s businesses and the related industry economics.
  • Work independently and consult with more experienced team members and supervisors on issues of greater complexity.
  • Promptly escalates errors and items requiring correction, providing reasoning for needed changes.
  • Organize and execute work within specified service standards and timelines. Demonstrate an awareness of overall workload and work with team members to complete items accurately and timely. 
  • Primary focus is execution within defined parameters, with some expansion based on developing capabilities and experiences, in partnership with more experienced staff.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Three or more years Financial Services experience, preferably with exposure to Trust or Institutional Operations, Private Banking, or Customer Service.
  • Four-Year college degree preferred.  A major in Accounting, Finance, or Economics desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Acquired understanding of company policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and direction.
  • Knowledge of fiduciary risk preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and solve problems across functional areas.
  • Effective customer relations skills.
