The Manager, Record to Report – Cost Accountant at Walmart is responsible for overseeing the costing for the plant accounting team, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives. This role involves tracking material movements, managing bills of materials (BOMs), performing variance analysis, and assisting with audits and inventory management. The Cost Accountant will work closely with the plant and home office teams to identify cost savings opportunities and ensure accurate financial reporting.

This role is located in Robinson, TX. Relocation is required for this role and package available.

What you'll do...

  • Financial Accountant Role: Understand the financial impacts of costing materials and the flow of expenses and balances.
  • Cost Understanding: Analyze drivers of costs related to the plant and specific products, pushing all costs to line and material levels to understand the true costs of manufacturing finished goods. Understand fixed vs variable costs and specific drivers of costs along with activity rates.
  • Cost Savings at Product Level: Work with the plant and home office team to identify and eliminate waste in the product stream. Knowledge of yields and targets set within BOMs and process orders.
  • Analyze and Reconcile Inventory Balance Sheet Accounts: Perform deep item-level analysis of drivers of Materials Management (MM)/Inventory Management (IM) and monthly reconciliation of inventory balances.
  • Assist with Audits: Build relationships with the plant to assist with and document all audits and controls related to materials. Ensure cycle counts are completed timely and accurately.
  • Track Material Movements: Track material movements in SAP, understand the normal flow of products, and help the plant identify areas of improvement.
  • BOM Understanding and Costing: Manage and update BOMs, ensuring accurate costing of finished goods. Subject matter expert in how BOMs are set up. Communicate confidently on the costs of materials.
  • Closing: Perform all aspects of closing from the MM/IM side of the business, ensuring process orders are accurately completed and costed. Perform journal entries to reconcile all costs in the correct period.
  • AP/AR: Assist with managing vendor master listings and ensure material purchase orders are correctly received, and vendors are paid.
  • Fixed Assets: Assist with the inventory and management of fixed assets within SAP.
  • Activity Rates: Assist with the calculation of activity rates in SAP for various cost drivers.
  • Forecasting: Assist with forecasting in all areas of the factory, particularly those touched by BOMs.
  • Variance Analysis: Analyze results from process orders to understand drivers of variance and work with the plant to reduce variances to target.
  • Process Order Management: Ensure process orders are closed timely and accurately.
  • Stat Key/Allocation Management: Run key statistical figure allocations and distributions at month-end and make changes to document as needed.
  • Prepare Inventory Reports: Produce accurate and timely inventory reports to inform leadership of inventory balances and performance.
  • Material Flow: Have strong knowledge of material physical and systemic flow from ordering to sales including storage locations, WIP, and machinery.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting or related role.
  • Proficiency in SAP and other accounting software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, advanced functions and data analysis tools.
