Duties and Responsibilities
This professional position is responsible for the development and implementation of individual and community-wide sexual health initiatives to support HIV prevention and care in LGBTQ communities with a focus on Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGHC) populations. Establishes and maintains positive community relations and collaborates with local agencies that conduct HIV risk reduction programs targeting transgender and gender non-conforming populations at risk in Miami-Dade County. This position is under the direct supervision of the Health Education Supervisor.
Serves as health promotion and public health education advisor to other agencies. 1-Assess and evaluate prevention education programs that target the LGBTQ and TGNC community and identifies challenges/needs 2-Identify gatekeepers in the LGBTQ and TGNC Community. 3-Share recommendations for implementation of new strategies and/or venues to reach out to the LGBTQ and TGNC community. 3-Participate and lead outreach efforts in the LGBTQ and TGNC communities by promoting TestMiami.org, providing HIV/AIDS/STD, PrEP/nPEP education and collaborating with the testing team to increase testing in priority populations 4- Knowledgeable in newly identified evidence based intervention (EBI) and best practices to reduce HIV risk and promote HIV care 5-Enhance and support MDCHD's existing comprehensive HIV prevention programs by working and partnering with community-based organizations and stakeholders to develop and support local HIV/AIDS initiatives targeting Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. Assists in leading, coordinating and attending events and outreach activities related to transgender health and HIV prevention and care. Provides technical assistance (TA) and guidance to community-based organizations (CBOs) on development, implementation, evaluation and expansion of HIV Prevention programs and/or services for the LGBTQ community which a major focus on Transgender and gender non- conforming populations. Supports capacity building initiatives and facilitate the collection of qualitative and quantitative data for the TGNC community. Collaborate with contract managers by providing Technical Assistance on Advancing HIV Prevention, and on behavioral modification interventions including the Replication Effective Programs (REP) and the Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions (DEBI).
Develops and presents health education and promotion programs 1-Implement behavioral and biomedical HIV interventions to reduce HIV transmission Identify and disseminate Trans and GNC-inclusive HIV prevention materials and interventions to reduce the acquisition of HIV and STD and deliver nPEP & PrEP messaging. Attend LGBTQ and TGNC community events and meetings as required. Provides sexual health workshops to LGBTQ and TGNC community members. Address HIV stigma and promote adherence to care for HIV+ individuals. Provide LGBTQ cultural competency trainings to both FDOH staff and community organizations.
Manage and lead Transgender/GNC community mobilizing efforts through a local advisory group in Miami-Dade and partner with community-based organizations, local businesses, AIDS Service Organizations and gatekeepers to develop, implement, evaluate and expand local HIV/AIDS initiatives. Plan, coordinate, attend and/or present at local, regional and/or statewide conferences, meetings and workshops. Serves on advisory committees of community and health related agencies as requested, . Coordinate efforts to observe Transgender HIV Testing Day and Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). Develops, prepares and coordinates health needs assessments and other public health surveys as requested.
