Position Summary:

The Sawyer is responsible for operating and maintaining the saw equipment to process logs into cants or rough-sawn lumber. This role plays a key part in ensuring production efficiency, quality, and safety within the mill.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate saw equipment to cut logs into predetermined sizes and shapes.
• Monitor and adjust machine settings to optimize cut quality.
• Inspect logs and finished cuts for defects, proper sizing, and grade.
• Communicate with other mill personnel to ensure consistent flow and production.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on saw equipment.
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
• Assist with log positioning, equipment cleaning, or other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience operating sawmill equipment preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to read measurements accurately.
• Mechanically inclined with basic troubleshooting skills.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts or overtime if needed.
